Name: Desuma Skyfire
Gender: Female
Age: Immortal
Race: Dragon Mount
Description: Desuma is a creature of grace and agility born to soar and yet made for fire. She is an elegant creature despite the fact many two-legged citizens still only see her as a beast. Her body is molded for the speed and dexterity required to bring forth her Rider’s full potential and help it grow. Standing just short of 8’ from foot to shoulder, Desuma possesses a feminine figure to complement her natural draconic strength complete with a strikingly proportioned chest and slender body. Covering, from tip of her tail to nose, her long body which extends an impressive 19 feet is a handsome layer of armor formed from a lustrous mosaic of bronze scales. However, at closer scrutiny, each individual scale has an edge of red which blends gradually into the main golden color. Longer dark red plates protect the stretch of her tender underbelly. As for Desuma’s face, it is an elongated beauty. A slender snout widens from her nose up to her clear amber rustic eyes. Her teeth, as well as her talons, are razor sharp with a perfect ivory coloring which comes with her relatively young age. Looming over her armored body drapes gracefully a pair of lithe wings – its long fingers sporting the same bronze pattern while the thick skin webbing has the same deep red pigment. She can boast of a 60’ wing span which gives her the lift to carry three to four grown people.
Powers/Skills:
Like all Dragon Mounts, Desuma does not possess a power of her own. Her power lies in the ability to amplify her Rider’s specialized magic. High electric charge flows through her veins, tissue, and muscle; her entire body and soul acts as a power source of pure electricity, also known as sky fire. However, despite her great amount of stored power, she cannot harness and use it for direct attack. Sudden small burst of energy may escape from her form, but she does not hold the control to direct them in a particular fashion. Desuma can control the release of bursts but only to that extent. It comes in handy for intimidation and imposing fear in others. Additionally, as a power source, Xa’rion’s dragoness companion can absorb electric charge from other sources such as nature’s storms.
Personality:
Often times, the dragoness can be a bit childish frequently found teasing and sarcastic; manners have never been a strong suit. Luckily, the majority of the population cannot hear her; only her Rider Xa’rion, dragon whisperers, and other dragons can hope to hear Desuma’s sweet and deep draconic voice. She enjoys playing with Xa’rion as a sibling would in their private conversations. Commonly her voice takes on great sarcasm and she, like most dragons are, is very prideful; however she is a very good, extremely loyal companion. Just as the Dragon Mount should be, Desuma is always there for her Rider no matter the cost be it her health or even her life. And though, she may become jealous of Xa’rion’s humanoid friends, she accepts it knowing she cannot be selfish and hold him as only her own.
History:
Before Xa’rion:
Desuma had waited all too long for Xa’rion to come. It had seemed everyone in the dragon colony had their own power and many days the young dragons spent their time showing off new abilities attacking each other in trivial play fighting figuring out who could best the former champion. Desuma, a young dragoness herself, however, possessed no active power of which to speak. Still her pride soars high with her spirit for she knows of a destiny none among the other dragons can dream of. She is to be a Dragon Mount, a companion for one of the great Dragon Riders, a specific Dragon Rider… her Dragon Rider companion. For this reason alone she had strutted around the colony with little shame. Full of pride and yet she yearned for her destiny to come… to come to her with greater speed than time allowed. Therefore, she took flight from the colony many days and the occasional night scouting over the mountains. Desuma searched for both adventure and her Rider, Xa’rion, though she of course knew not of his name. However, this knowledge would soon come in, as fate commonly allocates, places unexpected.
Meeting Xa’rion:
Like every other day on which destiny knocks, those of the mortal and immortal races go about their routines with little thought of consequence and possibility of change. Desuma hoped for destiny to knock; however, she had begun to lose her overzealous enthusiasm. Yes, she was still truly excited and eager to join with her Rider, but she merely became used to returning to the village with nothing but fatigue. Unlike those other searches for the last number of years, though, fate has knocked and has knocked hard.
Soaring high above the colony’s secluded mountain range with her mentor at her side, Desuma searched; her mentor had insisted he come on this particular flight for reasons never revealed to the young dragoness. Aduro was a wise dragon, one of the eldest, and one of her best friends in the colony despite the age difference. He was like a father figure and perhaps he was a distant relative considering the lineage of the colony, but he treated her more like a daughter he needed to guide and protect. They flew together on the winds over the mountainous range not knowing just how close Desuma came to finding what she has been longing for since her birth.
Suddenly and Impulsively--something he'd been taught to avoid--influenced his hand and he stretched out his fingers, releasing a light wave of light.
A shot of unexpected impulse suddenly coarsed through Desuma’s draconically sensitive body for only but a moment. Confused and curious, she searched with a greater passion than the previous moment. Aduro grinned secretly to himself when he recognized the look in her eye. He reminisqued and knew that look all too well. They flew over the southern mountains now where the two-legged people had begun to settle in the region. There were few, but they were still present.
However, before he found the sense and sanity to stop, the electrical impulses of his own heart came at the beckons--flying through his outstretched arm. It did minimal damage to him, and his body quickly compensated for the slight loss of eletrical impulse, but the pain that second had wreaked upon his chest, left him breathless and staggering.
Soon after, a second shot of strange, and yet so familiar, senses came and dispersed throughout her body. Wings let loose the tension of the winds. She staggered blacking out for nothing more than a second. Suddenly, she was confused, weak, scared, and angry and she had not a reason why. As noted earlier, destiny knocks hard – when one continues to ignore the signs. Desuma no longer ignored fate. The dragon pair hastily parted ways; Aduro returned to the colony and Desuma followed the winds of destined change.
Nearly breaking the great sound barrier, dragoness of bronze sped into plain view of the village beneath the clouds. Wings spread and with a muffled snap, the wind immediately filled the webbed skin between her long fingers. Alighting upon the quickly cleared village road, Desuma roared filling the sky with deliberate static. Flashing fingers jumped from her charged body to ground, air, building, and human beings alike. The charge did no damage to the village – after all, she was here only to meet and save a long awaited friend and companion. She stood on her hunches tall and proud for a moment in order to threaten all who meant Xar and Suki harm. Young and still inexperienced, Desuma understood not why she felt a need to help the girl as well as her destined Rider other than the fact she was a victim too – dragons are honorable creatures and protectors for the living realm. However, there was something deeper than just that. Desuma had tapped instinctually into Xa’rion’s mind.
With eminent threat dispersed, she made her way eagerly to the man who pulled himself off the ground. She felt drawn to him and knew he was the Rider she had been waiting for, but she did not close the gap too quickly for fear of hurting and scaring the man. Once she reached him, the bronze dragoness gingerly lifted Xar’s hand with the tip of her slender snout. Instantly, a flood of thoughts filled her mind. Desuma felt complete, felt the feeling she had dreamed about for years. Xa’rion… How long have we waited for this moment? It was a grand moment in time. Fulfilling and reassuring… she felt complete in that instant in time.
Mount’s eyes followed her Rider’s gaze to the girl. Desuma consented to carrying two – what choice did she really have in this situation. With both Rider and friend onboard, the bronze creature of elegance took to the sky. Her striking wings pulling them higher into the air above the village. Farewell, Desuma. Do not forget who you are. You are a companion, a Dragon Mount and one half of a whole which will influence the future. You are the Fire of the Sky and I bid you a fond farewell. With her name finally given fully intact, she soared with her new family ready for the future.
