A sweet scent of rose filled the air. Even though he was a male, he enjoyed the scent of roses. The symbolized, to him, that even beauty has its flaws and can be dangerous. The smell quickly drifted away as the scent of fresh replaced it. He looked at the ground at the dispersed petals. Why did all beauty eventually wither away?
Kyo jumped back as a large branch extended a limb towards the girl from just a single word. He was amazed at how she did this. His eyes, filled with amazement, enlargened as she picked off the nuts and handed them to him. He gratefully took them, but was unsure if he was going to eat them or not. Kyo was certain that she would not try to poison him, but he had never ate nuts directly off of a tree before. He warily cracked them open and looked at the insides of the brown nut.
'I feel like a squirrel eating the inside of a nut. Who would have ever thought I would be doing something like this.'
After breaking them all, before anymore hesitation, he popped them into his mouth. He swallowed them so fast so he didn't experience any taste that he nearly choked. He wanted to be sure that he didn't taste them, even if they tasted good.
Kyo wasn't fond of the cold, but he did like the snow that came with it. To him, snow covered all the world's true flaws with a blanket of pure snow. It was more peaceful and sincere. That was the world he wanted. He never had a reason to hate the cold, only because he killed the natural beauty of plants. All his thoughts vanished as a cold gust of wind rushed past him. Apparently the nuts that Hana gave him either didn't work or hadn't kicked in yet.
"I don't hate the cold, but dislike it. I love snow, but not the temperature is must be at to stay snow and not rain. Hate is too strong of a word to use lightly when the cold only makes me uncomfortable."
He continued to follow the girl, always checking to make sure the clouds kept their distance. Keeping his head lowered and arms entangled with each other inside his black cloak, he could feel the start of warmth returning to his fingers. Was the cloak actually helping? Or was it those things Hana gave him? Was he simply hallucinating? His thoughts were stopped by a single, white flake that landed on his nose. It was the first snowflake of the season. Kyo looked up at the sky; the clouds were still behind them, yet one single cloud of snow appeared above the pair. Another flake traveled down from its origin and ended up on the pal of his hand, which had made its way out of the cape to take off the flake on his nose.
"Hana, it has started to flurry. The flakes are falling one by one."

The snow graced her face, sticking to her eyelashes and running down her cheeks as they melted. It appeared that the flower maiden was weeping, because of those snowflakes. Though her eyes did not portray it, Hana was rather startled by the fact that the first winter's snow had come so early. The maiden was in no way prepared to endure the cold climate. Her face already had cracked, green light twinkling slightly from the skin before returning to merely a crack. Hana's eyes of clouded red darted about, trying to find shelter or a logical thought.
'This one hates the cold...this one hates it so much....'
The last of the whispers belonging to her cholorphyll pumping friends withered away, and tears started to streek her face. It was strange, but anyone who looked closely could clearly indicate the difference between the stream of tears and the water melted on her face. Hana kept her arms locked on the other, gripping at the forearms as she tried to think.
"Cold....."
Hana stopped moving and tried to find her center. The water echoed in her ears, Kyo's breathing, her own panting, the wind that made the snowflakes fall, and utter silence. The animals were all hybirnating for now, and the flowers and plants were gone till their rebirth. Hana couldn't help but mourn for them, the plants were kin, afterall. She turned back to Kyo, violet strands moving with the wind, tears on her face.
"Kyo....it's cold...." she whimpered slightly. He was a human, the boy wouldn't understand the astute pain she was going through. This feeling of lonliness, of weakness, of abandonment. The girl rubbed her eyes with her hands, the red orbs becoming more irritated and dry with her constant strokes as whimpers poured from her lips. "This one doesn't know what to do. Should this one stay inside a tree, should this one find the lord of soil, should this one try and live like a human does?"

Warmth was now returning throughout his entire body, fingers could now feel an object's texture. Kyo was excited about the snow. It was after all his favorite element, if only the cold would disappear, but the snow kept falling. All of his enthusiasm vanished when he saw a tear stained face looking towards him. He walked over to her. He thought about giving her a hug for comfort, but every time he even touched her, Hana flinched. Kyo didn't know what she would do if gave embraced in a hug.
Cold. That was the thing that made her come to tears. Apparently the cold hurt her more than numbness. Kyo couldn't think of a way to comfort the teary-eyed girl. He was never good at trying to comfort someone, especially in a time of need. What was he going to do? He had to use his brain. He heard slight whimpers come from the girl standing in front of him. Without thinking, he took off his cloak, revealing his weapons and arms, and placed it over the shoulders of the young woman. He wasn't sure what her reaction would be, but for now he wasn't it need of it. He wasn't even sure if the chill of the air was the only cold she was talking of. After all there are multiple kinds of coldness such as loneliness, and emptiness.
Red blotches on Hana's face became more vivid. Kyo could tell by just looking at her that she was something immensely wrong and that she was in great discomfort. He could do no more for her.
"How about he travel into a town for shelter? On the way, we can ask about the Master of Soil's location."
Wind was picking up speed, making his silver hair even more of a mess. he wondered how long this warmth would last. The snow became a steady flurry that melted as soon as it hit its final destination let it be the ground, them, or anything else that surrounded the traveling duo.Dark, furious-looking clouds now covered most of the sky as the clear, blue sky drifted into the horizon, hiding until the snow was over as a child hides from a thunder storm.
Staring off into the snow-filled sky, he heard Hana ask him a question. One which he was not sure how to answer. One of pure pain as Kyo could tell from the whimpers in her voice. How was he to know what she should. It wasn't his decision. It was her life, yet she wanted his say. After he thought a few moments, he knew what he would tell the suffering girl. If she was to become one with the tree, that would mean, he'd be alone. He surely didn't want that.
"Hana, it is your life, you should do what you want to do. Since, you asked me though, I will tell you my opinion. I do not want you to go inside a tree. We can look for the Lord of Soil together. I do not know how you react living like me, a mere human. You can try it though. The key thing of being a human during the winter is heat. We both need a source of heat."
Kyo spoke his opinion to the girl. If she didn't like the answer, well she doesn't have to listen to it. She was the one who asked him. We stood by her, awaiting her next move. He was ready to follow Hana to where ever she chose until another path of life came along. All of the decisions were on Hana for the moment. For now, they had to decide where they were going to take shelter in until the snow passed and then where they were going to go from there. The cold just made both of their lives a little more complicated. He couldn't believe that he was sweating and today he was almost a human popsicle.

Hana rubbed her arms, debating her options. Part of her whispered that she looked like and was acting like a child in front of this Kyo, this Kyo who was a man and had other things to worry about than a pathetic flower girl. Yes, he had asked to stay with her, but it was quite possible when he found someone a little more accessable or compatable she'd be abandoned. She was walking in a little circle now, her footprints piling up on top of each other. Part of her wanted a human companion, part of her feared being inside a tree, and part of her wanted to be healed and not feel this pain. Hana decided that the silence of being by herself in eternal slumber was not what she wanted.
Hana listened for the sound of Kyo's breathing and turned to him. At the waist she bent and bowed to him slowly, dress ruffling slightly with the wind. Once straightening herself she smiled, which looked pathetic on her teary face, though the tears had stopped falling. She wiped them away with the back of her dress sleeve and laughed sadly. "This one is sorry Mister Kyo, this one is sorry that she causes you such problems. But this one likes Kyo, and thinks he makes great company and doesn't want to leave Kyo by himself in the winter-time."
"Maybe a town would be best for this one, you can teach this one how to...blend in. This one knows that her hair is a strange color, and her eyes are not so pretty, and this one speaks funny too. This one, Hana wants to be able to talk to people, creatures that are not just the elves and the plants." Hana smiled gently and looked around in a circle. "Without the plants this one does not know where a plant is, or which direction this one should go. Perhaps Kyo can lead this one?"
The snow was starting to stick to her hair and her hands were now veiny with the green color. She was going to need sunshine soon, or some sort of make-shift warmth. A fire might work, or it could make her wilt. Hana was usually safe in the elven kingdom because they could master plants and therefore master Hana's health. But now she was alone and unsure of how she would fend for herself. Hana turned to Kyo and smiled, "This one is warm now, yes? This one's gift helped Kyo??"

Kyo stared at the girl as she went around in circles, as if she was torn between decisions. He wanted to comfort and ask her what she was so concerned about, but he figured that it was some type of personal issue and he shouldn’t ask because she might take it as an invasion of personal space. He continued to watch her. A single snowflake fell onto his nose, which had melted due to body heat.
Once Hana looked up, Kyo spotted the tear streaks on her cheeks. He had sympathy for her. She was going to lose her entire sense of sight, for the plants were the ones that described to her whatever life brought her way. He listened intently to what she had to say. Problems? What type of problems? There was no problems with the two of them traveling together. He enjoyed being around her. It gave him joy knowing that he now had somewhere to be in this life of his. Now all he had to do was find a meaning of it. He now knew that the girl enjoyed his company, for she said so herself.
“What problems? I enjoy having you in my life. I thank you for staying with me this winter and that you acknowledge my feelings of loneliness. Of course, I will glad to accompany you and help you at any time. Remember that.”
He gave a small smile towards Hana. He knew she couldn’t see, but he wanted to let his happiness show on the outside as much as it filled his soul. Kyo stepped a bit close to her. He didn’t to think about winter. Sure the snow was awesome and fun to play in, but the memories he had in his heart brought tears from his more feminine, sensitive side. Memories of Emi, all the laughter, fun, snow ball fights, making snow people, even memories that go back to his childhood, before the abuse when his life was one of a child: happy and care free. Now, he had a hard time even being able to trust someone, but something with Hana made all that go away. Kyo didn’t know what it was that did that but he was appreciative.
The male thought long about those past experiences and wished that he could go back and change them. Stop the abuse, but then he would have never met Emi, the best of life so far he had. Maybe he could have kept her closer to him so she could be with him right now. But then he would have never met Hana, and what was to come with her and where they were going to venture. Fate was fate and fate can’t be changed.
A town? He knew that answer quickly. He indeed wanted to go to a town, especially for the winter.
“A town is a grand idea. I’m sure you’ll blend in perfectly. Everyone has his or her uniqueness. If everyone was the same, life would be blah and boring. Take me for example: You don’t someone wearing things like I do every damn day. As for your language, people come from many places and they all bring their accents and customs along with them. Talking with people is as easy as 1-2-3. Just talk to them like you did me and you’re set. That’s just the type of person you are: easy to like and have that warm fuzzy personality, if that’s even the word I’m searching for.”
That worrisome look returned to the flower maiden’s eyes. The one where loneliness, scared, and worried and lost all come together. He had to think of the correct thing to say and fast.
“Don’t worry your pretty little face so much. I will help you find plants and we can help lead each other in the right direction in the path of life.”
A tint of happiness and comfort was in his voice. He ran a hand through his shaggy silver and black hair to try to free the single flakes of snow from his hair that had managed to maintain their shape and not melt away into puddles of water. He looked at Hana, who happened to be staring at her hand. It was indeed like a plant without its source of sunlight. From what little he knew about plants, he knew that they needed sunlight for food, so Hana must need the sunlight to survive. Kyo couldn’t think of what to do. All kinds of ideas ran through his mind. Sunlight was also warmth. He softly slapped his hand against his forehead in thought.
‘Think Kyo. C’mon Kyo.’ If light was the problem, he would have to make a fire, but that heat was too intense for a plant. If it were water, they could return to the river. If it was heat, they could always go to the last resort of using each other’s body heat to keep warm. It amazed Kyo how she could hide here true emotions by changing the subject and occupying her thoughts with other things.
“This one is fine Hana. I am warm. I hope that my cloak is at least helping you tad bit. What we really should be doing is helping you now find what you need to stay your beautiful self.”
Kyo knew Hana flinched every time they made physical contact with each other, but he took his chances. He took Hana’s hand and tried to urge her gently forward.
“Let’s go. We are not going to get anywhere standing here now are we? Now what is it that you need?”

The idea of a town was compelling. As much as Hana belonged with plants, her mother believed that Hana belonged with people as well. Her mother came to mind, with beautiful long ebony and green hair, eyes like emeralds, and a creamy skin complexion. Though Hana never completely saw her mother, what the plants could interpret told Hana she had a wonderful mom. Seeing through a plant was never what the truth completely was, because the plants had their own consciousness, and therefore had to interpret what they saw. Hana suddenly felt a pull at her heartstrings, she missed her mother, despite her being gone for so long. Hana even missed the people who feared her so much.
Kyo was very encouraging, he seemed to have a faith in Hana she herself could not see. It was hard to reflect on the inner self when it was her own self. Still, he made her smile a tiny bit. Hana did not want to tell him she was wilting before his very eyes, the process slow, but always in a constant motion. If she could not survive, she did not want him to watch it, its something as horrid as a human's death she figured. When her own mother wilted she could not see, but the feelings and bonds were so intensified, Hana took it better bad. Rubbing her arms lightly she tilted her head, her quirky gesture that she was listening and was excited about things. He had hope, so she would too.
When he took her hand Hana was at least a little startled. Her body jerked back, but her feet never left their spot on the ground, eyes expanding from being caught off-guard. But she relaxed slowly, looking down to where she knew their hands were. A human's hand, and hers. What kind of hand was hers? His was rough, worn with calaces from probably fighting, tired from traveling. What did her hands feel like to him? Where they too innocent, to sheltered? The thoughts reflected in her eyes slowly vanished as she decided she wouldn't think about it. Hana wondered about the war she heard so much about, and about the Lord of Soil.
"Kyo...if we go to a town and find the Master of Soil....will this stay with Hana still? This one wants to learn more about what she is....and this one...isn't sure she'll like what she finds out...'" A fear beyond the cold verbally expressed, something she didn't do too often. "Hana wants to know...why her people feared her."
Yes, feared her. They had feared her, the girl Kyo found to have a warm fuzzy personality. THey had asked her to leave. She had been the one to sucess the throne after her mother, but instead was politely, for the most part, asked to leave. Hana was young, even for being part elf, and didn't understand it. With no father, and now a deceased mother, and no siblings, no one had the heart to explain what she was.
"Sometimes this one feels she's....not right...something not right in this one. Different, but not the good different, something bad? This one doesn't know. This one thinks the Lord of Soil might know who this one really is." She didn't realize her grip on his hand had become tighter, a reflex from something she would not say aloud. A crack of green broke out on the back of her neck and she let out a muffled whimper. Hana wanted to be warm. She never realized how cold her feet were, how the dress did nothing to protect her.
Pasting on a fake happy face she nodded, "Yes, lets go, Kyo."

The smile on her face was more than encouraging for Kyo. A smile was an expression of happiness and approval, unless of course, it was a forced smile, but usually Kyo could decipher them. Fake smiles usually didn’t last long and had a certain look to it, something Kyo couldn’t describe in words. A grin appeared on his face in return. Hana didn’t jolt backward as much as before hand. Was this because she was use to Kyo reaching out for her hand or was it because she thought he was going to do something like this? He didn’t know, nor did he care. All he knew was that the snow was falling harder, Hana needed some source of heat, and they needed to find a town or some source of shelter….fast.
Her hand was soft and gentle, like Emi’s hand and his mother. Were all women’s hands this smooth and calming? This was another of life’s answered question for him. Something else his mind would never know. The snowflakes became larger as they were dispersed from the clouds above. Words were spoken that startled Kyo. After he regained normal heart movement after his heart practically skipped a beat, he thought about this question. Will what stay with her? He didn’t understand the question all too well. He didn’t want to feel dumb asking her, but what was the ‘this’ in her statement. Many things ran through his head: her plant person half, her elven half, even himself possibly. There were too many things to pick from out of all options running through in his thoughts. He took his free hand and scratched the back of his head, not like scratching would help figure it out.
“Excuse me for being dim-witted, but may I ask what ‘this’ is?”
Kyo really did feel utterly mindless, but what else could he do? He wanted to make sure he got all the facts.
“Once we find the Master of Soil, I’m sure you will figure out all of the question roaming throughout your thoughts about your past, present, and future as well as your well-being and almost anything else you wish to know. No one is ever sure if they’ll like what they have found out. There is always the chance the thing they wish to know is the worst answer ever, or the answer is exactly what you wanted it to be. Have hope Hana, hope and faith.”
Hana’s smile had faded away and now a solemn face could be seen. It had a certain tint of confusion in it, as if she was torn between to people’s actions and thoughts. Kyo knew none of this was his business, but he wanted to know. He couldn’t help it. If the two of them were going to travel together, then he wanted to make sure that he did everything possible to make sure Hana was happy and healthy so that the two of them could have fun on this journey of theirs. His thoughts were interrupted by negative opinions of herself by Hana.
“Hana, you must stop thinking negatively about yourself. You are yourself and that is something to be proud of. If you think this way, you will believe it and that truly isn’t your personality. Like I told you before, once we locate the Master he can help you on your journeys, but you have to promise that you won’t forget about little me.”
Her grip on his hand increased to a tight grasp. Kyo hoped she would loosen it soon, for it hurt his weary hands. What had she suddenly gotten so tense about? Why didn’t she trust him enough to tell him the truth? He wanted to know the truth so badly, but she never told him what was bothering her. This kind of irritated him. At least her negativity was followed as smile. The smile wasn’t as pure as the one before. He didn’t want to tell her that he knew that there was something about this plan that she didn’t like, so he just acted as if he was glad that they now had a plan.
Kyo was excited. He led her by his hand as they walked through the coating of snow to a town, hoping to find the Master of Soil so that Hana could have her questions answered. Kyo had some of his own, but Hana nor anyone else would know that until the time was perfect. He wondered how long this heat would last from that nut thing Hana gave him. He knew the wind chill was getting colder, just by looking at Hana, and her rosy cheeks and nose. Wouldn’t those nuts work on her too? He didn’t know. The fact that Hana was hinding something from him was really annoying him.
“Hana, is there anything I should know about how you are feeling right now and coping with the weather?”

Excuse me for being dim-witted, but may I ask what ‘this’ is?”
Hana shook her head as she continued to walk hand in hand with Kyo. "Kyo is not dim-witted. The 'this' that this one speaks of is hard for this one to explain. This is..." she touched her heart with her free hand. "This is the heavy feeling on the chest, this pain that rumbles inside but still feels far away. This one, feels different. Something in this one is changing. This one wonders that if she finds THe Master of Soil if this feeling will leave."
Hana loosened her grip on Kyo's hand and let hers hang limply. The cold air was making the tips of her fingers turn the green that seemed to represent her blood. If Kyo examined her face long enough he'd see she was biting her bottom lip trying to subdue the trembling motion it was producing. Her blood-colored eyes followed what few sounds she could pick up on, and her eyes portrayed the lonliness she felt like a blank palette. Because she was blind, it was almost like the rest of her face could easily betray her and spill out how she was really feeling. Her eyes were the worst, with nothing to focus on, they seemed rather blank, with raw emotion pouring through.
With her free hand Hana wiped some of the snow from her hair. She felt something damp and rubbed it between her index and thumb. Not that she'd tell him, but it was Hana's green blood. The top of her head must've cracked when she wasn't looking. Deep down the flower-maiden knew that if she didn't find energy soon her wounds would be beyond her healing capabilities. Plants are naturally resilient, but they can only endure hte harsh environment so long. Hana wondered if she would have to stoop so low as to fall into the hands of a human caretaker, one who would bind her wounds and such.
Hana wished he wouldn't reprimand her for speaking how she felt. Her people did think she was a monster, and because the girl did not even know what blood was in her veins, how coudl she not be curious? She wasn't incisive, she was slow and needed to think. Although she had the disposition of a child she was a very troubled mind. "Negativity is just how this one thinks. This one doesn't know who she is, who her father is, nothing. How can this one not help but be concerned? Why else would this one's people ask her to leave her home? They knew something about this one, something bad. This one needs to know what it is!" She pointed to herself, slight anger but more sorrow on her face. How would you feel, to be asked to leave and have no reason to? "This one left everything she knew in that village and this one still, to this day, has never met anyone like this one, nor anyone who knows anything about this one. This one is always alone, this one wants to know why she is isolated!"
Hana, is there anything I should know about how you are feeling right now and coping with the weather?
Hana held out her hand for him, the free hand, where steady green dripped down her wrist in tiny trickling streams. "This one is falling apart, this one will wilt soon if she does not find energy. But this one doesn't know what to do." She looked away from him and withdrew her hand, realizing her outburst was far from something a princess would do. "This one...this one is very sorry Mister Kyo...This one shouldn't have said those things..."

Kyo felt kind of stupid. He didn’t zone out or anything, but the ‘this’ was something personal that Hana probably didn’t want to think of, but once more he interrupted into someone’s personal space. He felt bad knowing that he pried it out of the poor girl. It was just a feeling in her heart. One of yearning, one of wondering who she was and about her origin. He couldn’t help but wonder what that feeling was like.
Everyone changed in time, but he wondered how much the young girl would change? Was her maturing and growing stage different from that of a human being’s? Or was a different type of change she was chatting about with worry in her voice? Kyo hoped with all his heart that the Master of Soil could help her and make her worries vanish to the abyss of darkness.
He had sorrow for the young girl. He knew everyone was different, but to have never encountered another person like herself, he could not even imagine what that must be like. He was a very different person with an especially unique personality but at least he had met other humans.
“Everyone is different. Take me for example. Everyone is unique in their own different ways. That is what makes us ourselves.”
A cold limp hand lay within his grasp. Her tiny, smooth fingers were as cold as ice. She looked cold all over, but there was nothing he could do until he found her a source of energy and heat. Her facial expression was that of sadness, worry. He continued ahead with Hana’s hand still attached to his.
“You are cold. We must find you heat quickly. We must pick up speed. If I calculated right, just over that single hill, a town is in sight.”
He picked up his pace, not only for her sake, but for his as well. He didn’t want to be caught out in the cold and snow after this heat left him. Kyo would use all his might to make sure he did his best to make sure he helped Hana, even if he had to carry her. It just seemed as an instinct to him to protect someone like her from whatever he could. Hana’s face seemed to show every emotion change she had. A once worried look became even more troubled. What could possibly have happened? He was standing next to her the entire time. Sometimes he just wished he could read minds to see what were bothering people.
He had sorrow for the young girl. He knew everyone was different, but to have never encountered another person like herself, he could not even imagine what that must be like. He was a very different person with an especially unique personality but at least he had met other humans.
It’s not like he ever-talked negative, but he had something against those who used negativity towards themselves. That’s how he ended up the way he was. Years of being put down and then he started believing that all of the nasty words were true. He knew that the girl had known nothing of her past, but everyone eventually found out they’re past and so would she, he was sure of it.
Anger came to her voice. He had never heard her like this, She didn’t seem to be the type of person to raise her voice or becoming unless she was pressured under a time limit or had a high level of stress. He understood her point of view. He had experience just like hers, only in a different way. He got through it with the help of one person, Emi, and she would find her way of getting through this too.
“Hana, it’ll be okay. You will find your answers in the journey of life. You’ll find your own road to travel. Questions will be answered. If they thought you were something bad, I cannot find it. You know, others share your emotions. They may not be in the same way, but they are kinda like yours. I have answered questions like yours. My mother beat me as a child. Out of all of my siblings, she chose me to be her slave. I know how you feel. Please let me help you.”
He stared down at Hana’s stretched hand. Green liquid dripped off of her fingers onto the ground. He didn’t notice till just then that her fingertips had green tints to them. Was her blood green too? What was happening to this young girl? Why was she apologizing for her words when she had other things to worry about.
“ No need to apologizing at a time like this. We must help you find your energy as you say. I do not fully understand your ways, but I gather that you are in deep need. Don’t worry. I will use all of my strength and will-power to help you. I will I even carry you if necessary. You must tell me how I can help.”
Kyo wouldn’t admit to her, but if he saw her leave this world just like Emi did, he would have no faith in this world and would not be able to go on. Hana gave him hope. He wouldn’t let anything bad happen to her if he could prevent it. Snow was falling at a steady rate, sticking to his hair and eye lashes. He took his free hand and brushed out all the flakes lying on his head and face. His pace was more of a jog. He wanted to see the destination he had in mind.
“Hana, let’s hurry, for your well-being. Now what is this energy that you were talking about? Water? Heat? What? I’m sorry, but I am worried about you.”
Kyo looked around. His only thought was reaching the top of that hill. He focused on it. He would not give up. He had determination on his mind, in his eyes, and in his voice. Just how long did he have before Hana got worse? How long would it take before they reached the town? Would they find the master of Soil? What would happen to him? Life’s questions kept his mind full and eyes focused.

The cold blood colored orbs widened slightly, only slightly, enough to make the eyelashes flutter, kissing and retreating, like many lovers do. The corners of the lids were taught from the mental strain, the brows lined with melted snow. Somehow, drenched head to toe in the heavy of the snow, she was still just a beautiful weeping flower. It is said that the rose is only most beautiful when the petals fall away, when love dies, because the faintest scent is a rekindler of what had occured. But she was not just a flower, no, she was a girl too.
A single hill gave her hope that this journey would soon be ending. Despite this, distance was not her best knowledge. The girl knew not how to measure a foot, a kilometer, a mile. The units held no purpose in the life of a girl who could not see, in the world of a blind one. She was weak, pathetic, and skill-less. The girl could be no apprentice, nor contribute to that community she would seek refuge in. The girl attempted acts of kindness, communicating with the nature surrounding her, but most ended with little effect.
Kyo begged to help her, and a frown was on her face. It was tiny, making her subtle lips a little more obvious against her plain face. Her face was that of a piece of paper, learning and absorbing, reflecting. It held no lies, unfortunetely. "This one isn't sure Kyo can help her..." she whispered quietly, pushing her hands deep into her pockets, letting the green blood collect there of out of his sight. "This one isn't sure anyone, can help her." She woudl no longer hold his hand, she would no longer stain it with the blood of a hybrid, a half-breed, a mistake.
Hana had no proof of who she was other than the contours of her mother's face; the feel of the soft skin that was identical to hers. She remembered the sound of her mother's voice, the warmth of a smile she did not see with her own eyes. ALl of that was gone. Her life was a constant winter of being alone, despite the ample amount of greens that existed in the world. "This one for the rest of her life, will have to suffer in the winters. This one is weak and cannot fight. This one does not know the customs of the terans, nor of any creature beyond her elven sisters. THis one does not even know what you truly look like."
Her sight. Yes, it was a deep pain there. Seeing through the plants was like a lie, it was never her real eyes, it never would be. Hana tugged on her jacket and held it to her dress to keep the heat in. THe dress was tearing along the bottom hem, the girl needed attention. Her steps were heavy, her head jerking foward with each step, each one more panicked and hurried. The snow's rate was increasing. Hana felt her insides freezing up.

Hana’s eyes looked into the distance, as if she was staring at the hill. Kyo could not even imagine what his life would be like without his sight; after all it was his best of his senses. He wanted her to able to see the world through her own eyes. Then she could see her destination and see him instead of plants describing things to her.
She was indeed correct. He wasn’t sure if he could help her. Kyo could only try his very best to help her. The look of Hana’s face became more and more worried as they continued on their way over a hill. The two had been walking for some time now. If only they could travel faster. Kyo knew he had the power in him to run to the top, but he wasn’t sure if Hana had that much strength in her. The pace had quickened as Hana became more worried, for Kyo could hear the worries in her words. He still was aside of the girl, making sure she was okay.
“Suffering is all something each and every living thing on this world must deal with. We learn to work our way around them, trying to conquer them with all our might. Sometimes we can defeat them, then other times we fall to our knees and cry for help. We all find what we are good at and people appreciate what we can do. If it weren’t for the diversity of our talents, our world as we know could not operate correctly. You will find your destiny of what you’re place is on this place we call home.”
Hana’s facial look had become much fuller of terror and fear. He wanted to know how to help her. As the pace continued to speed up, the pinnacle of the hill became closer and closer. Kyo ran ahead to make sure that his sense of travel was correct. Indeed, there was a small town down at the bed of the hill. Kyo didn’t know what he would have done if he had been mistaken. He would have let Hana down and there was nothing he could have done to help the girl then. Kyo ran back to the quick-paced maiden.
“Hana, the village is right at the bottom of the hill. We must get there quickly.”
As time passed Kyo became more and more worried about the girl. What would happen if she couldn’t make it that far? What if the town was deserted? What if no one would help them? He mind raced with these open-ended questions of negativity. He wished that there was some way to speed them up. The only way of doing that, or what he could think of at the moment, was carrying her, but Hana twitched every time he even touched her. The more and more he though about it the more it made sense. It was either suffer and maybe even end life or let a mere human carry her to safety.
“Hana, it would be much quicker if you would let me carry you. You wouldn’t have to use much energy, body heat could give you come warmth, and I can get us they’re faster.”
The snow continued to accumulate on the ground; nearly an inch or two was now sticking. In this region, apparently weather changed fast. He ran rough hands through his hair, sleek and wet. The water made it look stick straight. He clothing was beginning to become moist. He himself wanted to get to the place of safety as soon as possible, for he was not fond of being out in the snow without proper attire. Him prancing around in his tank top and other summery clothing in the snow was bound to end up badly, probably in a cold.
Looking into the grey, snowy sky, Kyo yearned for the snow to stop falling and the warm sun to come out again. Then the snow would melt away and everything would go back to the way it was, everything was okay and cheerful. He knew that was the impossible until the winter passed and spring spread its magic once more. Kyo kept in motion, he was awaiting a response from the young woman on the statement he had stated before hand.

Hana was learning that Kyo was not someone who was too sympathetic. It was more in a sense, he had a slew of philosophical ways to belittle the problem she had because other people too had problems. He failed to see problems were individual. All beings suffered, that is the nature of the world, he failed to see how each pain affected each person differently. He was sanguine, and blatantly optimistic, though words were words and he had no proof for Hana. Kyo could promise she'd find her place her entire life, and still she might not find it.
The snow continued to fall and the flower maiden was so frail it looked as if she had been viciously attacked by a wild wolf. Hana could barely keep her mind focused, her vibrant red eyes were lackluster and gaining a thin lining, portraying that illness was rupturing her body. Hana's breathing was labored, not severely, but labored. She started coughing, her whole tiny body contorted and trembled with each cruel cough she had, her tiny hands tried to cover her mouth, as if to keep the cough in until eventually green blood dashed past her lips and colored the white snow. When it ceased she firmly gripped the fabric of her jacket at the place where a heart would be, it was cold, her heart was wailing inside. Hana fell to her knees, with a tiny whimper, "Kyo..."
Just one hill, she told herself. It was one hill, though she knew not the size, that kept her from reaching asylum. She sniffled softly and pushed her hands into the snow and forced herself back up. Like layers of an onion, her hands were practically chippping and flaking. Hana touched her face and the shock was evident in her eyes. Although the girl was blind and could not see what her body looked like, she could feel; she could feel the raw edges where the skin was broken, the warmth of the green blood, and the stinging feeling of fresh baby skin touching the frigid air. The feeling was unfamiliar. She'd only felt it a few times before when she was training to be a healer in her clan with her mother. THe contours of battle-worn faces, tears, relief, the emotions were embedded in the wounds.
Somewhere in her mind she recognized Kyo telling her that he thought carrying her would be best. Hana held out a hand, stablizing her balance, until it landed on his arm. She was uncertain at first, and ran her hands up and down his arm to make sure it was him. It was warm, she could feel the flesh and blood thriving beneath his clothes. "If....if that's what...Mister Kyo thinks is best...then...then...this one will relent. This one..." she was bad with intimacy, she wanted to tell him. There was parts of her she hadn't yet revealed to him. Hana leaned into his shoulder, feeling fatigue, her eyes closing slowly. "I'm sorry, Kyo."

Stilling walking slowly next to the fragile girl, Kyo could see the cold getting to the girl. Her eyes were not as vivid as before when the sun was shining upon them, no sparkle came from them. He was sure that the two would make until he heard the frail girl coughing deeply. He then stopped and made sure Hana was okay. He was worried about her, very worried. The only times he had heard that cough was one he nearly caught his death from an unknown sickness and when Emi died, neither were good outcomes.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw the girl fall to her knees. Kyo quickly went over to the side of the weak, ill girl. He felt his heart sink, not knowing if she was going to be able to get back on her weary feet. At that moment, he heard weak words come from her, those calling his name. He knew he had to get her to that town quickly. Even if it was an abandoned town, a house with a fire place and some dry logs would help create a source of heat.
“Hana, are you okay?!”
He watched Hana get back to her feet, right there ready to catch her if she fell back to the cold ground. At a quick glimpse, she only looked ill, but when he looked at her, Kyo could see her skin thinning like a sheet of melting ice. He could see the veins that transported her blood throughout her body. He had never seen anything like this. This girl needed help now. As minutes passed, the colder the chill of the air grew, the colder the snow seemed to feel, and the winterier it felt.
He saw her hand reach and land on his arm. This was the first time she had actually touched him. He figured that a beggar couldn’t be a chooser in a time like help. HE grasp was tight yet weak at the same time. It was tight to reassure her that she wouldn’t fall down yet weak with illness. He took her other hand and helped to stabilize the feeble individual. Her hand was cold as ice. Hana had finally given into his offer of allowing him to carry the maiden to salvation.
“Hana, it will help. I promise.”
Kyo could hear her words fading, and her body becoming weaker, as she was starting to lean into him. Her gave her a hug of reassurance. He carefully picked the girl up, carrying her in his arms. She was lighter than what he had imagined, like a feather. He held her close to him, trying to transfer some of his body heat to her.
“Hana, there is nothing to be sorry for. This was nothing of which you could have did to prevent this. There are some things in life you cannot prevent. Believe me, I am an expert of devastation.”
He picked up his pace, hoping to reach the shelter before night fell. He could now hurry and not have to worry about Hana behind her, she was right in his arms. He was being as gentle as if he were holding a infant. Kyo worried about if they were going to make it. As moments flew by, the top of that were becoming closer and closer as he walked faster and faster. He could feel her body heat escape. Hana’s were shut. She seemed so peaceful, yet he could see the illness lingering in her. Her green blood coming through cracks in her soft skin like when he himself gashes himself. After a long while, or so it seemed in the cold, the top of the never-ending hill was within yards of his reaching. He spoke quietly to thr girl.
“Hana. The top. We’ve reached it the town, is in sight.”
It was then that he realized that Kyo realized that he had a friend feeling towards this girl he held in his arms. He felt a weight being lifted off his chest, knowing that the two of them were one step closer to Hana’s recovery. As he walked down the hill slowly so that he wouldn’t slip and fall. He wasn’t one to do that, but he had never been under a time limit and carrying something so fragile. A memory of past times came to mind. It was when him and Emi decided to attempt to sled down a hill using on metal rods as their sled. It ended up falling apart in the middle of the hill and both tumbled onto the snowy ground on top of each other. He let out a soft chuckle. It was a pity that Hana was sick and didn’t like the cold. With her personality and his, they could have one hell of a snowball fight.
“My body heat should be giving you some warmth and with me carrying you, your energy level shouldn’t diminish as quickly.”
The town came closer and closer from every step he took. They would be there and they could have heat and help. They would be rescued.

A heartbeat, a steady thump da thump that whispered in her ear. She nestled her face against his damp jacket, like a child warming up to his/her mother seeking shelter. She consciously tried to feel her muscles; fingers flex, toes curl, lips moving slightly. The heat from Kyo's body was the only thing keeping her from falling into startling hypothermia. The sounds of the world around her were fading slightly, the grogginess of being ill was altering her senses. She strained to hear the savior who carried her, twisting slightly in his arms with a look of distress on her face. Hana was already without sight, she did not want to be without her hearing.
Kyo informed her they were at the top of the hill. A sigh rolled off her lips and she opened her eyes. Though she could not see him, she lifted up a hand to touch the side of his face. "Thank you, Kyo," she whispered, her voice horse and barely audible. His face was chilled as well, nose cold as she ran her finger over it slowly. She frowned slightly, "This one has done nothing but been a burden to you, you are cold as well."
If he could see beneath the clothes she wore, her entire body was covered in cracks, like the veins that transported her green blood. The last of the plants had died, and she too was desperately trying to escape that death. Redundant, to say the least, but it was one of the few things the girl could think about. She wondered about the spring, or where Kyo would go if she did not live. "Kyo....this one doesn't want you to be lonely."

His careful stepping allowed them a safe landing off the hill, glad that his uncoordinated characteristic hadn’t kicked in at that moment. Kyo noticed houses, but no lights. Even if the town was deserted, they could still seek salvation in a home and he could create a fire using the rubbing of two sticks together, which he had only tried once out of pure boredom. As he trudged through the inch or two of snow, he looked down at the fragile being he had been carrying. He couldn’t bear to see her die; he would never live that down.
Hana seemed to be snuggling into him, probably for more warmth as he would using a nice soft blanket in a bed. He listened intently to the girl’s words, so soft that he barely heard her speak. A nearly frozen hand touched his face. Yes, he was indeed getting colder. Kyo wasn’t concerned about himself, only of Hana. The worst that could happen to him was frostbite, which was nothing compared to death.
“You are no burden to me. At least I have a purpose now. If I hadn’t met you, I’d probably still be wondering around, trying to figure out whether I should live or die. There will be heat soon, I promise.”
Her face turned sad, scared. He pondered about what she was thinking about. He kept walking, his pace quickened as the land smoothed out and what seemed to be abandoned town came closer. He finally reached its outskirts. There were no footprints in the snow, no lights, no one.
“Why do you suppose I’ll be lonely? If you mean you dying, that is not a possibility. We have reached the town.”
He did not want to tell her of the town being what seemed to be empty. He peered through windows of the homes that seemed to be abandoned quickly, as if a disaster had occurred. He kept walking until he found one that was in good shape, still had a door attached and no broken windows. Carefully with one hand still holding Hana, he opened the door. It seemed to be a house that had children, well kept and homey. There was a fireplace in the corner, with a small pile of wood, both covered in dust.
“Hana, I am going to put you down. I’ll be right back. Scream if you need me.”
Kyo searched the small home for blankets and something to start the fire. He found a small chest with blankets, but nothing to start the fire. He returned to the almost frozen girl. He placed two blankets on the cold ground, two off the side. He carefully guided Hana to them, telling her that is was he in his most soothing voice, while wrapping the other two blankets around her. He walked over the fireplace, attempting to find two small sticks, which didn’t succeed. Kyo ended up breaking a log into pieces. Kneeling down, he tried rubbing the sticks together, wondering if this really worked. After multiple attempts a small spark appeared, just big enough to ignite the small tepee he had made. He jumped up in celebration.
The fire grew and steadied. He watched Hana, not too close but not too far from the fire, with the blankets.
“Hana, I am going to search the house. You stay there. If you need me, call my name.”
He wondered the home, finding a kitchen with only jarred fruits and vegetables in it. A bedroom as well as a small child’s room was there. Clothing and other possessions still there, covered in dust, from many years. Finding another blanket, Kyo wrapped it around himself. He also found a small wooden box of medical supplies, which he took with him, as well as candles. He took them into the room where Hana was. HE quietly stepped just outside the door to look at his surroundings. The town seemed to have been ambushed by something, doors and windows smashed. Roofs caved in from something. This place gave him the chills.
Returning to the warming house, Kyo returned to the bedroom. He wanted to know what happened. He searched closets and chests but the only things he found were average household items. It was when he was leaving the room did a floorboard sticking up trip him. A loud thud sounded the house.
“I’m okay! Just fell!”
He also noticed a carpet. He moved the carpet to find a secret door, but he was too scared to look in it. He’d save that for another day, maybe even never. Next he looked under the floorboard. He found multiple diaries, along with a key. He wondered what the key was for. He stuck it in with his throwing knives, securely. He gathered the books, eleven in total and returned the lighted rooms. Relaxing against a wall, he opened the earliest dated book: “ ”Tis winter and we all wonder when they will attack. We are all prepared, but we are scared, scared we will all die. I pray that my dear infant son will live.” He closed the book. Who were ‘they’? Who were ‘we’? Nothing made sense? Where were he and Hana? What was happening?
Trying to sound normal, which didn't quite work he asked Hana "Warm? Better?"

Hana did not tell him, but she could sense that nothing was alive in the town he'd taken her to. If anything, she could feel that of death, it lingered like the snow storm clouds. She nestled her face under his chin for the time being. Kyo was good to Hana, too reassuring and good, and she didn't want to discourage his kindness.
Being on the ground, her body felt ponderous, it took so much effort to just let her eyes open and close. When Kyo left she could sense his absence; this made the flower maiden realize how much she needed Kyo at this moment, and how easily she'd allowed herself to feel that weak emotion and connection. While alone, Hana contemplated how much he assured her she'd be okay. The fire crackled, and she felt no remorse for the wood that was giving her this heat. Those plants, had long been dead, and lived good lives, Hana assumed.
While alone she curled herself up in the two blankets Kyo had given her. Beads of sweat lined her face, but from the heat, and from her illness. Despite the new layers of warmth, she was trembling. Was it too late for Hana? Hana wanted to see, she needed plants. Something Kyo might not realize now, but without plants, all she had was darkness. There were no shillouettes of figures, nothing, she was enfused in eternal darkness until the spring. It terrified her. When he called out to her tellin gher he'd fallen she couldn't help but giggle. Kyo was such a comical boy, she was grateful he made her smile.
The girl's senses were off, at times she couldn't even hear Kyo enter the room she was in. Hana was disoriented in where she was in accordance to the fire in the room. Her face was practically hidden by the blankets she dwelled in, but if Kyo looked at her still, he'd realize she was still bleeding. The cracks on her faces from the prior cold still existed, but at lesat no more were being produced.
"Warm? Better?
She jumped, face turning left to right looking around. Exhaling with a small sigh she closed her eyes. "Warm, yes, thank you, Kyo. There are no more cuts coming, I'll be okay now," she avoided telling him she was still bleeding, she needed him to feel as though he'd done a good job, which he did. Though that security didn't last, she started coughing, her whole frame contorting until green blood splashed up past her lips and into the fire, making a hissing sound, but never quelling the flames, thankfully.
Reluctantly, the girl looked to where she'd last heard Kyo. She didn't know if he was standing, sitting, or would be coming and going again. "Will....will you sit with me, please, Kyo? This one can't...stop shaking."

This book had caught a hold of his attention quickly. Through the pages, ‘they’ seemed to be getting closer and the ‘we’ seemed to be getting more and more frightened. It was only when he heard a harsh, deep cough from the young woman did he look up. As he saw Hana cough up blood, a hard memory fluttered back into his minds, two actually. Both of which people dear to him died. As hard as he could, he tried to force those thoughts away but they just kept becoming stronger and stronger. Something else had to be wrong with Hana, something she wasn’t telling him.
Kyo heard the girl resituate to find him. He stared at her, trying to find out what else was wrong, but he couldn’t. Shaking his head in frustration, he turned his attention back to the diary. His eyes scanned the pages, but he could not make sense of them, any of them. He was startled by the words Hana spoke. Every time Kyo even touched Hana, she’d flinch, with the exclusion of him carrying her due to weakness and speed. He gave into her question, though against his better judgment. Placing his finger between the pages of the book he was reading, he stood up. Before sitting back down, Kyo shed all of his weapons onto a heap except his daggers and the key.
Flopping down onto the floor next to Hana, he did not know what to do. He thought back to when he cared for someone who was sick. Skeptically, Kyo gently, very gently, massaged her back, rubbing it lightly in circles. One thing Kyo could do was multitask, while attempting to sooth the girl, he opened the book once more, to keep reading. It wasn’t that he didn’t care the Hana was in bad health, that definitely was not it, but it was he wanted to know what kind of place they were in.
“Hana, is there anything I can do to help you?”
As hew turned the page, two little pieces of paper, fell out. One was a drawing that looked like a little child made it and the other was a map of what seemed to be an underground system of tunnels. A rough cough, escaped him. It would be a bad thing, very bad, if her himself turned out to be sick. Putting the book down, Kyo lounged his hand prop him up. He didn’t want to make Hana scared, but she had to know something was up due to her lack of sight and enhanced other senses.
“Hana, do you sense something wrong about this place? It is as if something happened hear and yet I can’t figure out what. I found these diaries but I cannot piece them together.”
Sitting straight up, he readjusted his blanket and bowed his head. Kyo’s eyelids were getting the better of him. He could tell that his body had had enough for a day and needed rest. He must have fallen asleep for a few moments until something startled him, a quick thought that plagued his mind. It was as if something had touched him as a cold feeling came close by. He was wide-awake now and something told him to look inside that hidden door in the floor. Kyo told himself that as soon as Hana stopped trembling and rested a bit, he would check. The same questions zipped through his mind. Who were these people and what happened to them? Was there anything left in this village? What was that key to? What was beyond that door?
Kyo pulled the key out of his pouch. Looking closely at it towards the light of the fire, he noticed it was a old key, with three letter inscribed in them in some ancient text. The other side however held a saying, one he could read ‘Thou shall kill to live and protect through the safety and honor of thy elders and keep secrets locked inside boxed hearts.’ It had barely fit onto the key. Kyo wanted to know what the text read and what he couldn’t figure out. No. Kyo needed to know that information. He was deep in thought, still trying to smooth the ill girl when a sound made his whole body shake in terror.

His presences was known when he sat down beside her. She noted his weary aura, the boy was tired, after carrying her for so long. Part of her, was ashamed. The sounds of many weapons meeting the floor chilled her slightly, the idea of screams of agony entered her mind and she closed her eyes to avoid it. When his hand caressed her back she did jump, but immediately settled back down. If there was physical touch between them she could know where he was. Hana sighed in relief, she felt better knowing where he was. Part of her knew not to get so attached to a mortal, a mere man who'd die eons before her, but she couldn't help but long for that compassion. “Hana, is there anything I can do to help you?”Her fingers played with the edge of her dress, clamping onto it taughtly. "Just....stay here with this one....this one cannot see...with no plants this one sees darkness..." She tried to look in his direction, she probably looked so unappealing with cuts of green all over her, her eyes the color of blood. Many people found her appearance unnerving. Hana could hear the sound of paper being turned and she looked away. Somehow she felt, a little bit cast aside, that he would read, but then again what else could he provide for her. His hand gesture stopped over time, she could hear the slowing of his voice. Kyo was slinking off into a dream, which comforted her. Even Kyo needed his rest, and she wanted to encourage that. His cough troubled her, she did not want him sick because of what he'd done for her. “Hana, do you sense something wrong about this place? It is as if something happened hear and yet I can’t figure out what. I found these diaries but I cannot piece them together.”She put her hand on the floor and listened. Faintly, in the depths of wood that had long since died to make the home, beneath it the earth, all knowing what had gone on here. "A great death has befallen upon this place, where souls mourn and still wander. There was a darkness that crept in slowly, like illness or plague, but something worse. The cries of children echo here." Hana opened her eyes and felt a tear plink to the floor. The heat was making her feel a lot better, as was Kyo. Secretly she wished to lay her cheek against his chest and stay there, like her mother used to allow. Sometimes Hana wondered if the absence of her father was what made her cling to other men so easily. For a while there was silence, and she reached up, since he was taller, to touch his face. Not to her surprise, his skin felt tired, like he needed rest. "Perhaps this one should sleep I mean, I don't mi----" a horrid sound echoed through the home and she immediately withdrew her hand and covered her ears, eyes wide, like bloody moons. [ ]

Kyo was off an some type of far away place he called ‘la-la land’ where all thoughts of his pondered forever trying to piece themselves together to the best of their abilities Kyo could his energy draining from his thinking process. This place really scared him stiff. He wasn’t exactly sure of what to this place was really about and his mind was slowly slinking away into the abyss of sleep. He didn’t want sleep though, he was too unsure of his surroundings to let his guard down.
Kyo could not complain about her wish. He knew the logic in her thoughts. If Hana couldn’t see and her hearing senses being off due to illness, she was a easy target for anyone to attack, even heaven forbid kill. A slight glimpse of sorrow appeared on her face. Kyo couldn’t understand why though. If any emotion, it should be one of pain and fear considering she had almost died from the cold and loss of blood and the two of them were seeking refuge in some type of mysterious town that something terrible had happened in. The thought sent another tingle of fear throughout his spine, always keeping a hand close to his daggers.
He assumptions were correct. Hana had concluded his thoughts of this deserted, creepy town. Something terrible had happened, a massacre of either homicides or some type of very contagious disease that was enough to wipe out the entire civilization this small town has created. Thoughts children being killed and harmless, defenseless woman being slaughtered unhumanly rushed throughout his mind as Hana told of the stories of what some type of plant was telling her in there own language or thoughts.
He realized that the bigger picture at this current moment was not of this town’s past but of Hana’s current condition. She still felt cold to his touch, but couldn’t think of anything else to help to sooth her at the moment. Kyo could still feel the weakness inside of him, but his quick power nap gave him the energy to at least stay awake. He felt himself wander off once more into dream land until a cool hand touched his weary face.
The wind howled outside the home as if a tornado were coming down this path and having the thought of completing destroying this town. The snow was getting thicker, the flakes larger, the amount was accumulating on the ground. This semi-worried him due to the fact that if they needed a quick escape, they wouldn’t be able to have one easily.
All Kyo heard was the word sleep before Hana’s hand retracted as quick as a lightning bolt. He heard a sharp what seemed to be a scream from somewhere in this home. He was sure this sound was much sharper to the girl than to him, knowing of her enhanced hearing abilities. Out of complete instinct, he quickly wound a protective arm around the ill girl and grabbed one of his daggers in the other. With intense eyes, he searched every inch of the room they were in for the source of the shrill sound.
A cold chill roamed his throughout his body for a split second as his cautious eyes continued to scan the house. He glanced at Hana only to see terror had filled his widened eyes. Now there was absolutely no chance of rest tonight. Another scream was heard this time from the kitchen area where Kyo could have swore he saw a small child about the age of 4 standing. Then a older boy standing protectively in front of her. The two figures vanished within seconds. Then a terrified voice shouted “Help them. Help them escape!” Kyo heard rushing foot steps scampering throughout the home. Then the last he thought he saw was that of a man holding a sword and a murderous look on his face.
Kyo could not explain the feeling he sensed afterwards, but even though the feeling was unbearing, he overpowered it in order to protect the young girl. He reached behind his back for his bow and arrows and other weapons only found his bow and arrow and nothing more, as if something had moved them from his reach. Quickly standing up, Kyo cradled Hana in his arms as if she were a delicate baby. He grabbed ahold of some of the extra blankets, the first aid kit, his cloak of course, and the diaries. He didn’t know what it was about them, but they gave him a sens that they were some sort of key to the mystery lying behind this town.
Something motioned him to move towards the bedroom. He was trying to be reluctant but his body just seemed to slink cautiously toward that mysterious secret doorway in the floor. He was completely aware of all of his surroundings, but he had a feeling that something was guiding them to safety and away from the danger.
Two reached the bedroom, and Kyo cautiosly kicked open the door into the dark space that led to somewhere else. Going back to the main room and grabbing a as many candles as he could find and lighting one, the two returned toward the door. Very gently making sure the stairs were safe, Kyo made his way half way toward what seemed to be the center of the stairwell. Half of Kyo told him to go back and leave immediately or even wait a few days out until Hana got some of her energy and good health back, but the other half told him to find out what this secret was that was hidden so well and see if anything down here led to another clue of this mystery.
“Hana, continue or return and leave? Is there danger? What is this place? Any information you can tell me that could be of use would be greatly appreciated.”
What exactly had they gotten themselves into?

She was moved without permission, against her will, but the overpowering sorrow and horror in the poltergeists' voices immobilized her. Hana had never heard such agony, grief, it was beyond what her heart could bear. Part of her felt like it was being torn apart, she clutched her chest instinctively. Unable to protest, Hana realized Kyo was attempting to protect her. She looked around, trying to seek the source of this discomfort.
Once again the young flower maiden was asked if she could sense anything in this home. At times it was frustrating; she knew not what Kyo wanted to hear, nor what to truly listen for. In his arms like another piece of chattel, she wanted to be released. Hana was a coward in this sense, she wanted to disappear into the earth and let her fellow plant take care of her. Hana squirmed in his grasp slightly until she was face to face with him, her chest to hers, she cupped the sides of his ears and bowed her head so the crown was beneath her chin, "Ah, Kyo, can't you hear it now? Listen."
A silence grew in the home, trepidation lingering and slowly overpowering them both. Hana kept her eyes closed, her body physically trembling as she sensed the spirits in the area. Was someone truly here? She could hear the sounds of breathing, the echo of footsteps, but whether or not they were tangbile was for the two of them to decide.
"Kyo, this place might not be safe, but this one cannot tell. This one is still too weak to be certain, but this one does not want to put you in unnecessary danger. This one would rather...rather walk in the snow and freeze, then put Kyo in harm's way for her. No, This one wants Kyo to be safe."
She heard two heavy footsteps and turned her head, pulling her hands from behind his ears. "Who's there?" Could KYo even hear what she heard, if he heard humans, what if she was hearing the spirits. What if what she was sensing he would not know? Was she to be lost in this complete terror? Extending her hand towards the floorboards her eyes widened, the red intensifying slightly, as she continued to tremble, and a new crack appeared on her wrist. "Audite mihi !Grow iam , servo nos! The floorboards started to rumble only slightly and stop, as if stirred to life only to be pulled back into sleep again.
Looking to Kyo for guidance, she bit her lip, "Kyo, this one does not know if what she hears belongs to that which holds a beating heart, or that which walks without soul, or one with only angry vengence and no form."

Kyo easily overpowered Hana’s wiggling. IF she wanted to walk, then he’d let her. All she had to do was ask him and he would gladly set her on her feet. He just didn’t think she’d want to be standing without him near in an old house filled with anything possible in the dark where Kyo himself could barely see what was directly in front of him with the help of a candle.
“If you want to walk, I have nothing against it, just ask.”
All of a sudden, Kyo felt the movement of Hana’s arms and realized that she was clutching her ears. He only heard faint distant tortured words of people in the distance, but Kyo figured that he was just crazy. He did hear them though. He was glad that he knew he wasn’t mental, but that there was actually something making noise.
“Yes, I hear it, but yet it’s quite faint for my ears.”
Now Hana’s body was shaking from terror instead of wiggling to get free from his grasp. Kyo guessed that she didn’t want to walk now, so he continued his excursion down the flight of stairs. His curiousity definitly took him over. He eventually reached the ground level. Holding the candle out in front of him, Kyo realized that they were in a system of tunnels, maybe even the tunnels in that map he found. Kyo continued to follow the dim sounds throughout the passageways.
He wondered what Hana was thinking about the situation. He knew she had even less of an idea of where she was and apparently her sense of sound picked up a lot more clatter than Kyo’s human ears.
She would rather walk in the snow? No, he would not walk in the snow with the ill girl and give him even more of chance to get ill. He would only do that if this place got a bit creepier and more supernaturally eventful. Besides, there was no turning around now, especially since he had no idea where he was. He only knew that he was stayed left. Pulling the map out of the book, he held it up to the candle to see where exactly they were. Kyo wanted to look around, but was scared to see what he would find.
As he continued walking, he saw the candle illuminating something square on the ground. Bending down and still holding Hana, he went to grab the box only to find that something was clutching it, a skeleton. Jumping into the air and letting out a faint scream, he realized that this must have been an escape route and this person must have been trapped. Very gently, Kyo grabbed the box, being careful not to touch its former owner.
Then Hana spoke, but there was no one there that he knew of. If it were the footsteps, sure it was closer but there was still no one there. There was always the chance that someone was there and he just didn’t realize it or couldn’t sense or hear him or her.
“Hana. I don’t see anyone. You are making me get paranoid that we are going to die down here in this black abyss through some horrible death.”
The box now clutched under his arm, he carefully continued his journey. He looked at the map and he realized that he only could keep going left because he had no clue in hell where he was and if he’d reach a dead end, then he could back track. The candle was melting down lower and lower. If they lost this light, they would have no chance of escape. Kyo had never thought of this.
Hana spoke something of a different language that he couldn’t understand and heard the floorboards rumble only for a split second as if an earthquake had rattled them. She obviously spoke in some sort of wording that she had talked to the plants in. He listened to the rest of her words. He didn’t know anything about what the two of them were hearing, only that it was creeping him out.
“I know less than you. At least, you can hear more than I can. I have no idea what to do and there is no going back now. Any advice or anything else would be nice.”
His voice had a hint of terror in it. He continued his walk through the corridors of this abandoned escape root. He heard more and more noises from above him for they must have been under a home, but he focused on the very slight noise of those steps he followed and those faint words he heard in front of him. When or if the two of them were to get out of this place, and alive, no one would believe them if they told them of these stories and noises. The only thing they could do now was to listen closely to their ‘guide,’ follow their instincts, and hope that they would make it out of here alive and safe, and maybe with a little luck, end up somewhere with people in a normal environment that could help the two of them.

He was afraid, she could hear that in the voice, it was only a minor detail, but it was slightly higher and more fast paced. She was still cradled in his arms, and he was moving. Hana could hear his heartbeat increase, the adrenaline pour through his veins as his body prepared him for whatever was about to happen. Hana was not happy, she could be more of a burden then help, with her powers still recovering. His shriek of terror made her shake.
"Kyo, I don't think we should stay in this place," Hana warned quietly.
She was about to protest more when she heard the screams of small children. Whimpering vocally, she squirmed from in his arms to cover her ears again, sending her falling onto the floor, beside the skeleton. When she reached out and touched it, she froze, eyes widening with horror. The pain that still lingered on the skeleton made her ill, her face paling as she hurried to stand back up.
"The voices in this place are haunting. The victim dies so ruthlessly here, where pains till lingers in bones even though the flesh and soul are gone. I don't like it here."
Usually Hana was composed, spoke in the third person, but not at the current time. She was weak, sick, and upset. This place where the voices Kyo could only faintly here, crept around her, like it wanted to possess her. It was like the darkness crept in through the floorboards and was slinking around, like venomous snakes ready to sink their fangs into Hana's flesh.
She grabbed Kyo's hand and squeezed it. "Do we leave into the snow, or do we travel farther inside the depths of this place in search of another escape or heaven? Whatever we decide we must do it quickly for I fear whatever is in this home is coming after us. We are its target and motion would probably be our best option. My powers are still recovering, delay this monster for a few minutes more, and I promise I can be of assistance."

Hana had clearly stated that they should leave. That wasn’t exactly a bad idea at the moment. This place gave him the chills. He didn’t like at all, it might have even been the creepiest, strangest place he had ever been to. He felt Hana squirm out of his arms not as gracefully as it would have been if she just had asked him to let her down. Quicker than him as he reached down the help her get up, she had already stood up as if she were terror stricken.
Kyo was surprised, Hana had actually spoke about herself using the word ‘I.’ He supposed there was a first for everything. Hana seemed much more scared than he was. Were the voices louder for her? With his arm free he felt around the wall closest to him. It felt like stone and mud. The ground was mud. Kyo felt the wax of the candle drip onto his hand. ‘Damn it that’s hot!”
Kyo felt a cold hand take a firm grasp to his. A question of both their fates was spoken. He didn’t know how to answer it. He wanted to keep going, but he also wanted to leave and make sure he lived. The footsteps were heard again, faintly for his mere human ears.
“I don’t know what to do. Part of me is saying to keep exploring this place and figure out the mystery it carries, but the other part is saying get out of here before its not an option. Let’s just walk and see where we end up, whether it’s an exit or elsewhere. The footsteps are walking. Maybe if we just keep going, we can get away.”
Kyo, still holding her hand, walked after this noise. Hana’s words frightened him. Monster? What exactly was after them and what had they disturbed deep in this abandoned village. What was in this box he was lugging and why was it so important as for someone to give their life in order to protect it?
Every time slinked around a corner, Kyo’s heart sank. He wanted to get out into a source of light, even though it was dark. He wanted a cold burst a wind in his face. He wanted to find a way out of here, but close to a town with life so that the two of them could rest easily. He wanted the two of them to be safe. It wasn’t long ago that he had this feeling before. The same feeling of yearning, yet that time everything didn’t turn out good. This time Kyo was certain that if a life had to be spared, it would be his, but he hoped with all his might that it wouldn’t get to that point.
The footsteps stopped and the candle flame flickered as if a gust of wind had hit it. The candle had become nothing but a stub, so freeing his hand from Hana’s, he pulled out two more candles, one for each of them. Lighting them, he handed one to Hana, kept the other for himself, and placed the burned one of the ground to see how far they had gone.
Kyo noticed that the two of them had come to a fork in the road. One side blew cold, fresh winter air while the other held stiff, muggy air. This was the chance to choose their fate. He was leaving this one up to Hana.
“Hana, which way do we go?”

Inwardly, Hana had to question why Kyo gave her a candle at all, she was blind, it wouldn't do anything for her. But there was no time for pointless jokes like that. The footsteps clamored again and she backed up slowly, glancing around honing in on more sounds. She could sense the monster or whatever it was, was nearby, and she wasn't sure whether or not to announce this information to Kyo. Kyo seemed plagued with curiosity, and she questioned inwardly if she would die here tonight.
"Volo audire," she murmured under her breath, feeling her eyes glow red and flicker against the dancing flame. The floorboards moaned for her, flickers of green beads in them, lighting up down both paths that Kyo had told her to choose from. She stilled, feeling the old wooden boards flicker to life with the last of their ancient energy. It died quickly, and she was left in the dark once more. She hugged a wall for support when her energy died out.
"Outside....left....the breathing is there. This one does not know if outside is even safe, if we are up a level, would that jump be harmful? And, can Kyo manage to push through the creature who is blocking the way out? This one....can give you the last of her strength, to keep the monster from hurting you."
The candle was brought close to her chest, not enough to let her clothes flicker on fire, but to keep her warm. It was strange how just this candle was what she wanted to keep her alive. If Kyou looked back at her, he'd see that Hana tapping into her powers and left a crack down her middle finger to wrist, this one, permanent. Hana was wilting. This place was affecting her, the ghosts of the pasts were crying. Hana turned quickly, hearing something, but unsure of what it was.
"Ah...Hana is going crazy. We must leave here, this one does not want to hear their little voices anymore." She held the side of her head and hissed lightly, "No more, little voices."

Kyo didn’t know what had happened to Hana, but he had seen her holding onto the wall of the dark tunnel. Her face looked paler than usual. Kyo walked quickly to her side, but before he could reach her, Hana had spoke in breathy words. All he wanted at the current moment was to sweep her off her weary feet and into the safety of his arms out of harms way, but he knew that she’d just want down again, so there was absolutely no point of trying. He supposed his inner self was remembering the pain of not being able to protect someone he didn’t want hurt.
Left. Left was wearing the fresh air war and the chance of safety, but left was also snowy and cold. But right, right was mystery and maybe death, but also answers to the unknown. And monster? Him? Defend against it? Kyo pondered this? The word of fighting sent chills throughout him. Slight anger then took over him. Hana was NOT going to sacrifice her life for useless, human him, if that had to occur. They would try to fight side by side or he would do the defeating. He could not let another woman die on his account.
“No. Neither one of us is going to die here. We are going to do this together. You are going to get better and we will continue to live our fullest. As for this ‘monster’ I can try my hardest and I am pretty sure there will be no jump, but I am not certain.”
From her next statement, he knew Hana wanted out of there. That was it. They would leave. We gently placed a hand on the girl’s back.
“We’ll go left and into the fresh air. Maybe we’ll find comfort and civilization there.”
In case that pathway turned out to be bad, Kyo took one of the extra candles, lit it, and stuck it between to rocks to stand brightly in the darkness, so they could find there way back to the fork in the road if need be. As he started to turn left, he deeply wanted to go the other way, but this was for the best. One day he would return to here to explore the rest of this place once he gathered information on it and Hana as well as himself were safe and well.
Kyo walked along side the girl, just in case her weak feet gave out. This way he could catch her. He could feel the cold air blowing against his face. It felt good as he filled his lungs with the oxygen instead on the dry, muggy air. They wouldn’t be able to see if they were close to the outdoors before they were really close. The cold air might of gotten colder and gustier as they reached it, but it was still dark outside, it was probably in the early morning hours.
As the two of them trudged along in the darkness, Kyo wondered what the two would have to go up against. What it something human or inhuman? Immortal? Now Kyo was hearing the faint noises again. The noises of little children crying filled the air, some of them crying in just tears, some crying for mothers and fathers, or some just screaming for help. This place, Kyo had to leave. As they inched closer into the cold breezes, they grew more and more troubled. Kyo jumped into the air as he felt a tug against his pant leg.
As they walked through curving tunnels, Kyo looked back into the darkness and there alone, in the pitch black, stood his little candle, now only a speck in the abyss, waiting to burn out. That was once like his life. All he wanted was for his time here to expire just like a candle melts all of its wax. As it grew dimmer, he felt as if those memories and thought were being lifted from his mind. Yet as he turned his head forward, he saw the navy color of an ending of a night. They were right in the center of two lights, yet one was filled with the glow of the full moon and the other left in darkness. Once he was left in the darkness, but now his world seemed to become brighter once more. Maybe this was what he’d been waiting for. Maybe all he needed was to know the fact that he was needed.
He could sense that something was blocking to way to total freedom, both standing in the way physically for both him and Hana and something mentally, but this he could not identify. A huge blast of cold air blew against his face and he knew that thing the two of them were fearing only a few yards away.
“Hana, was it this, this feeling I’m getting? I sense that the monster you’ve mentioned is right in front of us.”
His voice was shaky. Was this the end? Could he defeat this thing and finally find some piece and let the past go or would he have to go back into the darkness?

The world was moaning around her, little voices calling out to her, warning her of the danger, but so faint from her own weakness, she could not understand. Her hand skimmed the wall for support, occassionally running over a jagged edge that pricked her skin. The blood left behind absorbed by the long dead-wood brought slight life back to those boards, but Hana could still not sense this. At this moment, it was as if she was just a mere blind mortal, not the elf, not the something else.
Although it was cold out, Hana knew it would be best for Kyo to be safe. Exploring with a handicap like herself was no good. If Kyo desired to return, she would allow this and either go with him or stay behind. Hana didn't think too far ahead, because she wasn't even sure she'd survive much longer. Why had she decided to not be one iwth the trees? What made her stay, was it really Kyo's desperate pleas? Kyo's lonliness perhaps, she could sense it, feel it in his bones, the past had shaped him so.
Hana, was it this, this feeling I’m getting? I sense that the monster you’ve mentioned is right in front of us.”
She stopped. A severe cold trembled up and down her spine, danger. The blood red of her eyes intensified, terror, filling them. What was it? What was this monster, why could her body or the fellow creatures around not tell her what this was that stood before them.
"It is here," she stuttered, shuffling one step back. "This one cannot see this monster, this one cannot see anymore." Hana had very little reserves left, probably the only thing that kept her from falling down. "Kyo.....you need to run." Despite the terror in her voice, she wanted him to be alright. She knew a way, one way, that could save him for now. "WHo is this monster?"

Kyo saw Hana stop abruptly. He was right. The monster was in front of the pair. Kyo could hear the fear in the girl’s voice telling him to run. This was one command he was not going to abide by. Yet he knew he was defenseless. He had no idea what this thing was and no inkling on how to protect himself as well as Hana against it.
Since it was invisible weapons would not work against it. The problem was that weapons were his only defense. There was only one thing he could think of doing, but he knew it wouldn’t work, but it was worth a shot.
Kyo bundled everything he was holding, except his candle, into a blanket tying it up like a sack. He placed this on the ground, and now he was prepared. He didn’t exactly know what he was getting himself into, but if he died in the process it would be for a cause instead of wasting his life staring into the stars.
He grasped his candle tightly, convinced himself he could do this. Adrenaline raced throughout his body. Without further thought, he ran as fast as he could into what he thought was nothing, screaming bloody murder. He stopped suddenly and flung his empty hand in the air and kicked as high as he could into nothing. This is what Kyo liked to call his “Dumbass impression of his Kung Fu skills.” He thought maybe it would scare this thing away. He ran back to Hana’s side, panting a little.
“Did my amazing Kung Fu skills work? If it didn’t, did I make him or her or it or whatever angry? What else can I do to help and running away is not an option because I refuse to leave you here.”
Hana probably he was a lunatic either because of his Kung Fu or the fact that he wasn’t running away.
“Alright you big, bad, evil monster thing. What do you want from us? Do you want to kill us or should I just use my Kung Fu ninja skills on you again?”
Kyo didn’t know what was coming over him. He didn’t know why this sudden burst of courage came about. He liked it though.
OOC: Not my best, but life is hectic. Please don’t ask where this inspiration came from. I know it is very random. Maybe it was too much sun from good weather. I just don’t know….

Hana knew not what "kung fu skills" were, but trusted they were a foreign form of combat. Hana had afterall lived with elven people for most of her existence, based around archery and prayer, not much of anything else. They were traditionalists. Also, being blind temporarily, truly blind, Hana was incapable of seeing what Kyo was actually doing. Hana could sense it, Kyo's absolute desperation to find a solution to this creature. She knew not if he was sucessful, but he seemed to be lost in the hormonal flush that waved over his mortal body. Hana turned back to where the creature was "standing", she could hear its labored, beastly breathing.
Her fingers traced the wall, and briefly, her powers flickered the outline of the monster. Chiroptera, a beast that feeds on the blood of other creatures, specifically, humans and hanyou. Saliva dripped from it's over large fangs, puddling on the ground below. Hana could even hear it's blood thirsty heart, eyes deciding between which of the two would be the first to fall as meal. Hana would give the creature no such luxury of time. From her hand she conjured seeds and threw them at the creature. "Evictum!" The seeds sprang to life and from each a bounty of vines grew, wrapping them around the still invisible body of the Chiroptera. The creature howled with anger, the sound waves literally shaking the walls of the home they were in, Hana clenching her hands. It fell briefly and Hana took Kyo's hand, the last of her powers had enabled her to see him and tugged on his arm forcefully.
"We must leave now! Invisible, this one knows this beast, it tried to take many of my people." She tugged Kyo back towards the maze they had just came from, "It's called a Chiroptera, it survives on the blood of humans and hanyous. This beast only dies by the blood of a special slayer, one whom we do not have. I can only bind him back for so long, and it will not be satisfied till it consumes flesh. Now it has our scents, we must flee, despite your "Kung fu skills", I wish not to see you harmed by the fangs and claws of such a demonic entity."
The Chiroptera roared once again and was slowly tearing its way through the many growing finds encasing him. Rocking back and forth on the ground it's mouth wide, spit flying and its screeches all to easy to understand, "kill the mortal flesh". Hana gasped in fright and continued tugging Kyo along.

Kyo was startled by the outburst made from the weak girl. Just a moment ago, she was leaning against a wall looking as if she was struggling to keep on her feet. What startled him more though was the fact that after the word she spoke, vines wrapped around what he thought was air.
The “air” was huge. Kyo didn’t know what it looked lie except that it was enormous. He now rethought about his random act. It scared the hell out of him. Suddenly, while staring at the monster, he was grabbed. Thank Borran it was only Hana. He jumped in fright but Hana’s hold on him was too strong to be broken.
Before Hana has tugged him too far, he grabbed his bundle, the sack he had created before he made a complete ass of himself. At least Hana couldn’t see him. He didn’t know where the two were going to go considering the outside was where the monster was.
Hana’s voice wasn’t her normal, it was the voice of taking control. Kyo was never good at taking control in bad situations. Wait, what did Hana call that thing, a Chirp-a-what-a? and did she just make fun of his “skills?” Even though those so-called “skills” probably made the Chirpopatta angrier. Kyo shook his head from side-to-side. What was he thinking? They were in the middle of a crisis between life and death and he was wondering if Hana made fun of him and his Kung Fu.
Kyo knew he was stronger and faster than Hana. He also knew the needed to get out of wherever in hell they were before they became Chirpohatta food. Kyo really needed Hana to tell the name of the thing again. Hana’s tug grew more urgent. Without asking or even thinking anything through, he swung his sack onto his back and then swung Hana into the security of his arms. He ran quickly and precisely around corridors and pathways. Finally he reached the little lone candle he lit still burning and lighting the darkness.
This time, he went in the other direction. He ran all the way until he hit a dead end. Then he was frantic. They were going to be eaten by something he didn’t even know the name of. He wanted to break down and cry, but no. Kyo was a strong man. Then, luck changed. A door. An old, decrepit door. He didn’t know where it would lead, but every door had an in and out. Hopefully they weren’t the same thing.
Kyo twisted the knob and with a strong nudge, he creaked open. When he walked through, he closed the door. The place seemed well kept as if people cleaned it often. When he turned around, the door was camouflaged so that people wouldn’t know it existed. He placed Hana back on her feet, keeping close watch on her as he explored the room. They needed a stairwell or another door. Terror crept through his body. He didn’t know how far they were from the Chirp-o-thing. He looked frantically for something. A few days ago, he wanted to die, but now he wanted to live. He wanted to have fun and he wanted friends. He wanted to LIVE. Finally, another locked gate opened in himself. He found the stairwell.
“Hana, walk straight ahead to me. I will hold your hand and help guide you once you come to me. I found a stairwell out. I think we are in someone’s basement or something.”
“So, what was that Chirp-o-what-a called again? How did you do that vine thing? It was cool even though it shared the hell out of me. Did you make fun of my skills? I suppose I owe my life to you.”
Kyo was happy. They escaped and he and Hana were living. Kyo hoped he wasn’t intruding into someone’s house. At least, they escaped for now or at least he thought and hoped.
