Name: Shay
Gender: female
Race: Elf/shifter
Corner Preference: The Goddess of Water
Age: 14
Description: Shay is small and skinny, and always has been. Her body is built for grace and speed, not fighting. Her arms are well developed, since she has used a longbow for most of her life, making them strong. She can shoot anything from any distance, making it look almost like magic. Her eyes catch any movement, and her sense of smell is almost as strong as a wolf's. Her hearing is perfect, so strong she can here a mouse patter around on the forest floor. Other then that she looks like a child, undeveloped.
Her skin is very pale, with thin white scars criss crossing her body from living out in the wilderness all her life. The biggest scar running down her back, from were a sword struck her as a young child. She never tans, nor does she burn, even though she has been through all kinds of heat and terrible conditions. Her hair is a pale blond, almost white, with small streaks of blue in her hair. She has a round, child like face that makes her look younger then she is. Her face often shows her emotions as if it was written out. Her eyes are a pale blue with a hint of silver and gold in them. They always seem to hold a look of innocence and child-like. The only time she does not look innocent is when she is hunting. Then she looks like a true wolf, always on edge, ready to strike at any time. Her teeth are unusually sharp, looking more like canine fangs. Her nails are slightly longer and sharper then most, and her fingers are long and strong.
On her left arm, near her shoulder, is a tattoo of a wolf's eyes. They are a dark blue, holding a look of hate and malice within them. When she transforms into her wolf form she receives the eyes from the tattoo, along with a snow white coat and a long, graceful body. This is the only form she has learned, though if she found a mentor she could have learned more. When she is in the form she can talk to other wolves and even dogs if she must, though she does not like to.
Around her neck is a jagged blue gem, just smaller then the girls palm, tied to a pure white leather cord, made from a wolf's hide. It used to be her mothers, given to her by her father when they wed. Shay is not sure if it holds magical powers or not, but whenever she is afraid, and she clutches the stone, it seems to give her strength, making her faster, stronger, or makes it easier to change into her wolf form. Even in her wolf form, you can still see it around her neck. Her family history and the reason for there is shrouded in darkness, darkness she does not speak of. She does not even tell her wolf friends about them, and they do not pester her.
Personality: Shay has that feeling of innocence from her young age and genital looks. Playful and often carefree, she is like a child of ten, not a young teen. She has a calming nature around her that will cool any fiery spirit, which often saves her from trouble. When she talks it sound like water running through a calm stream, or the wind brushing through the trees. When she is happy her whole body seems to shine, and her voice sounds like laughter. Never does she show pure anger or hatred. She looks like a innocent child with no idea of the world around her.
But that is wrong, very wrong. Shay is cunning and quick witted, with a good head on her shoulders for figuring out how to survive. She has been taught by wolves how to survive in the forest, and she will thrive in the wild. Since she has little strength, she will use her tongue, her speed, and her bow to get out of trouble. She is not very trusting, and when she is around people she always keeps a way out, like prey ready to bolt at the sign of a predator. But when you gain her trust, when you become friends, which is very rare, she is loyal to whatever end you may bring for her. She is the perfect person to talk about your troubles, for she seems always to have a answer to everything, or at least an opinion.
When she is in her wolf form though, she is completely different. Calm cool, and collected, she seems to have knowledge as old as time. When she is in her animal form she is completely one with nature. She will often go into the form when she is terribly frighten, or if she needs to long distances in a short amount of time. She talks in the wolf language, sound like yips, yowls and growls to another human or elf.
Sample Post:
The scent of water was strong from last nights storm, dulling the scent of anything near by. The sound of a stream came from her left, sounding angered from its restless sleep last night, full to the brim from the rain. Around her the sounds of the forest poured in, trying to make her lose sight of her prey, to bring her thoughts toward something else. She crouched low in the undergrowth, her pale blond hair pooling over her like a fountain of water; the streaks of blue in her hair standing out vividly. Her pail skin was smeared with dirt from crawling around in the mud, her hide shirt and shorts covered in muck. The tattoo of the wolf's eyes flashed with glee just below her shoulder, happy to be on the hunt. The long, thick white scar stood out just below her neck, ending somewhere near halfway down her back. Her blue eyes flashed with pleasure and tension as she took a step forward, clutching her bow tightly in her left hand.
The bow was Shay's most prized position. Made from the strongest oak, it was a dark brown, given a shine with a sap mixture Shay put on it each day. A carving of a vine with large leaves and different types of flowers wound its way from top to bottom, standing out gold against the dark bark brown. The string was a mixture of three types of hair, along with her mothers, so it would never break. The matching colored arrows Shay made herself; a few still left with the same vine decoration Shay's father had made with the bow. She had used it ever sense she was five, when her father first made it as a birthday gift to her.
The only thing that she loved more was the jagged blue gem, about the size of her palm, tied to a white cord around her neck. She had taken it from her mothers body, after she and her father had died in the great fire that exploded in there old home. She always wore it, for it gave her comfort, strength, and courage. When she needed help, or was frightened she would finger it, and strength would pulse fresh through her veins. Everything would become sharper and clearer, and she could focus better on the task at hand. When she needed to change form, the gem would also make the process easier and less energy consuming.
Now Shay took one of her own handmade arrows and strung it, creeping a step closer to her prey, her bare feet noiseless upon the forest ground. The doe had finally stopped for a drink after walking for many hours, its thick hide flashing in the sunlight. Its large ears were darting around as it bent to drink from the swelling stream. It to knew that it senses were dulled from the fresh scent of rain that covered anything, that any smart prey would use this time to sneak up on it, and make it its dinner. Tt would always be on the watch, always on high alert. But Shay liked a challenge.
She was a great distance away from the doe, and no normal hunter would try to shoot from that distance, for they would likely miss, and the prey would dart off. But Shay was no ordinary hunter, and even thought no one was around, she liked to show off her skills. The elf had shot at longer distances before, in badder weather, in tougher conditions. She always hit her mark, always. Now she coolly got into a comfortable stance upon the wet earth, bringing her bow up and drawing the string, staring at the doe like it was the greatest prize in the world, the one thing she wanted. The doe stopped drinking for a moment, as if it to had felt the sudden tension in the air. For a moment it kept its head down, its eyes darting, it senses on high. Shay stopped breathing, and began to listen to her own heart, and imagined the doe's. It had most likely speed up, with the sudden fear that it was being hunted. It was beating strongly in its chest, flowing its lifeblood through its body, giving life to the meat Shay so desperately needed.
TWANG! Shay let fly the arrow, and it hit the doe squarely in the neck. The thing rived and twisted, letting out a silent cry of pain, before giving under its weight and hitting the ground, dead before it fell. Shay paused for a moment, staring at the doe with oddly dull eyes. Then she forced herself to her feet and made her way to it. She bent down, getting a bit of the blood that was now streaming from the wound all over her legs. She pet the thing on the head, making a humming noise that a mother would make to a frightened child. "Thank you, strong one. You will feed me well for many days, and your tough hide shall keep me warm through the longest of winters. Your death well not be for nothing, so now go in peace to the world beyond. Sleep."
She stared into the dull eyes of the doe, letting the quiet of death seep over her, then stood up. Her face suddenly took on a child like appearance as a strong smile spread across her face, reaching deep into her dark blue eyes and spreading across her body like light. "Oh goody." She said happily, clapping her hands together like a child given a sudden treat. "Venison for dinner tonight, I love venison. But first i need to make camp, and call my friends for dinner, they must be as hungry as i am. Of course, those two are always hungry, having unfilible stomach's. "
So she got to work, collecting all the dry would she could find and made a small pile. She also walked back a few paces, and gather the pack she had left behind when she had first scented the doe. When she got back she pulled out some flint from the hide sack and started a fire. Then she prepared the doe, taking off th hide and separated the different meats and guts. Soon she had meat roasting over the fire, her stomach already half full with some vitamin rich guts she had treated herself to.
As the scent of cooking meat began to float over the campsite, she stood up and turned to the forest behind her. Looking up to the sky, she put her cupped her hands around her mouth and let out a long howl. For a moment the sound echoed over the forest, then went silent. To large shapes appeared from the tree line, stepping into the the clearing with wagging tails and a hungry look in there eyes. "Glad to see you could make it." She said happily to the two wolves. "You let me have that nice rabbit a couple of nights ago, so now you can share in my dinner." She pointed over to what was left of the deer. The wolves lept on it, and began to feast like they had not eaten in days.
As her friends ate Shay walked over to the stream and bent to wash her hands. The water was pleasantly fresh and cool, she would have to take a bath later. She cupped water in her hands and splashed it over her face, feeling the sun beat down upon her skin from above. Around her the forest sounds and scents began to appear, now that they knew that the hunt was over and the predator fed. Birds chirped in the trees, calling out the news to the others. A fox fleeted just on the edge of Shay's senses, darting in and out of its many entrances to its home. A group of deer was farther down, the wind carrying there scents and sounds. All was right with the world, exactly the way Shay liked it.
After her drink and a quick wash, Shay made her way to the small fire, the scent of the cooking venison wafting up like heavenly breeze to the hungry teen. The small snack she had as she had been preparing the doe was long gone, and her stomach gnawed at her insides, crying out for food. Except the rabbit her friends had caught her a few days, she had not eaten much for a couple of months. Sure she had some vegetation here and there, but nothing that filling. Now the site of the cooking meat made her feel the weakness of hunger that had been sinking into her bones.
Picking up one of the sticks she had stuck meat to roast over the fire, she began to feast with as much vigor as the wolves. The meat was warm, well scented, and filling. She could feel the life of the doe flooding through her veins, giving her strength. She quickly finished off th first piece and ate two more, saving the other six to cook into jerky, so she could have meat for the next couple of days.
After her meal she went back to the stream. Stripping from her garmets that she called clothes, she lept into the water for a quick bath. Strong cold rushed around her as she sunk slowly to the bottom of the river. The world changed around her. The water was crystal clear, giving all the rocks and vegetation under the water a clear appearance. The vegetation danced back and forth, moving to the beat of the water. A multi colored fish whipped by, its scales flashing in the pale light that filtered from above.
Shay let herself sit there for a moment or two, before her lungs started to beg for air. With a burst of speed she broke through the water, giving a shout of joy and pure happiness. Her two friends on the shore yipped and barked along with her shouts, having just finished there meal. Shay swam around, dunking other several more times before her body began to feel the coldness of the water. Shivering, she quickly scampered out and fetched some fresh clothes from her pack.
They were nicer then her other pair, the same tan color from the hide of a buck. But she had had some time one winter, and with careful stitching had sewed a few designs of gold flowers and animals on them, including different types of flying creatures, water creatures, and different types of prey. But her favorite thing was the picture of the wolf, a very special wolf, on her shirt, placed over her heart. He was massive, with long, fluffy hair and dark black eyes. His name was Midnight, and she had been the first animal friend she had made after her parents death. He had taken her in, and with the help of his mate Silver, had taught her the ways of the forest. When he and Silver had died from a huge flood, she could only find Silver's body. From her hide Shay had gotten the cord, which now held her blue gem around her neck.
She wore these when she was not doing hard work, so she could always keep them nice, and keep him close. Now she threw on the shorts and the shirt, feeling the soft hide of the buck rub against her damp skin. She then went to the stream and washed the filthy clothes she had been wearing, covered in mud and muck from crouching in the wet earth. She then took out some loose hide she had leftover from making her winter clothes, and set to work on mending the clothes she had been wearing. They had gotten torn from her hunt, and she wanted to pass the time.
Her two friends cam up and laid on either side of her. They were mates, and had joined up with her about a year ago, just after Silver and Midnight had died. The male, called Firestorm, was a dark copper brown with a patch of white on the tip of his tail. His eyes were a bright green, shinning like a leaf with the evening sun filtering through it. His mate was Barkenfur. Her color was a much darker brown then her mates, with a lighter color of brown around her paws. Her eyes were the same dark brown, looking like bark from an old tree, wise tree.
I don't see why you were that extra skin, little one. Brakenfur said in wolf tongue, a note of sarcasm in her growls. You seem to spend so much time on them, and yet they keep getting ripped or dirty. They look useless to me. Useless and a waste of time. Shay scratched Firestorm behind the ears, and shot the fae a dirty look. This was one of there usual debates during the evening, one that they did for fun to pass the time. "I do not grow fur like you, Barkenfur."Shay said hotly, in the same wolf language Brakenfur used. "So there is nothing to protect me from the forest, the harsh weather, and from a predators bite. This may not be as good from your fur, but it is better then nothing. It protects most of my body from the bite from the forest. It keeps me protected from the summer months, and my winter clothes keep me warm in the harsh winter.
The pup is right, my mate. Firestorm said calmly, looking up as Shay stopped her scratching and went back to her mending. The girl uses her recourses and puts them to good use. I say that, makes her a hunter just as much as we are. He gave Shay gave her a gentle look, which Shay returned, feeling grateful. Out of the two, Shay like Firestorm the best. Brakenfur was nice, even though she had a hot attitude, but Firestorm had always reminded her of Midnight. The way he treated her like she was his pup. He always taught her the ways of the forest, protected her when she was in danger, and listened to her when she had something to say.
Bracken shrugged and laid down her head, falling asleep almost at once. Firestorm stayed up with the girl a little longer, but then he to fell asleep. Around her the forest began to quiet as night took over the sky. Above the stars began to blink on one bye one, saying hello to the blanket of night. The moon had not yet risen, so the night was darker then usual. Shay liked this time of night, were everything was so quiet, so peaceful, it seemed nothing could go wrong. Slowly she set down her mending, and layed down, placing her head against Firestorms stomach. She could feel him breathing in and out, deep in sleep.
Slowly she turned and stared up at the sky, her mind filled with peace and happeness. Everything was how it was supposed to be. She was fed, there was a warm fire, her friends were by her side, and she was not in danger. Yes, everything was as it should be. Or was it? A small thought poked her at the edge of her mind, trying to awaken from where she had pushed it long ago. A vision of bright, hot flames dancing around her as she gasped for breath upon the wooden floor. Of the sound of the pack howling around her, crying there dispare to the full moon. Her whole life turned upside down.
Then the moment was gone, and Shay noticed she had not taken a breath. Firestorm shifted ever so slightly under her, and his mouth formed into a frown. Shay shook her head ever so slightly and fidgeted. She was being dumb. That was a dream, a twisted thought created by the imagination. She closed her eyes, let sleep take her.
