A red sun peeks over the Fire nation’s horizon heralding its majesty. Outside Feuer-Bohrung, a grand Feuergeist basks in its open light while inside, the citizens too arise with the sun’s warm call – some answer quicker than others. Bakeries open with the delicious fragrance of fresh breads and pastries while the pubs make their conversions from entertaining night hawks to pleasing early birds. Silence flowed through Fire’s elegant city save few voices including one elderly hound.
Lord of Fire strode comfortably and prideful from his personal home. He greeted the usual morning people as well as a few surprising faces such as Hoder who must have just currently been leaving his favorite bar. Torches lining the street blazed welcomingly for their lord. Graciously he received a nut strudel from this street’s baker’s wife and with a nod and smile, was back on his way. The lord walked through the peace of the city enjoying its calm and breathing in its homey atmosphere. Yet as he neared military headquarters’ gates, pressure built up within him.
Large doors burst wide open into the main martial facility. Focused golden-orange orbs searched around the fire-lit room. Fire Lord Kaji was ready for business.
The clatter of boots echoed down the hall as Kaji marched at a steady pace to his chambers. All the while, Sergeant Major Asan followed reporting on the night scouts progress in training. He mentioned strong assets and included possible weak links in the field even as Lord Hito entered his quarters. Kaji moved to organize the maps and plans lying upon his desk – the ones he had forgotten the previous evening – as he listened to the account.
After Asan concluded his report and after becoming satisfied with his desk, Lord of Fire Kaji Hito turned to the sergeant major with strudel still in hand. With a powerful confidence came his first command for the day.
“Thank you, Sergeant Major. Now… find me an update on Lord MeRyk’s location. Dismissed.”
Quick enough, the loyal soldier Asan left the room on orders partially closing the door behind and Lord Kaji was left just the way he wanted – alone and free even for just a moment. He walked to his shelves along the wall searching for visual aid amongst its contents. His eyes passed over the numerous books and scrolls. Kaji knew the map he seeks was folded and the general area in which it resided. As he looked, the lord enjoyed the savory strudel, breakfast; its rich flavor a pleasant start to the day. Lord Hito finished and grabbed a towel off the wine bucket to wipe his hands. Tossing the cloth back upon the bottles, he retrieved his map. This one too became a part of the collage once spread over his desk. It represented the unclaimed territories of Algaësia. Fire Lord Kaji needed the perfect neutral territory for an upcoming event.
Once seated at his desk, Kaji scoured the map. He became so focused upon current work, the young fire mage barely took notice to a new presence within the room.

Peira smiled proudly as she saw her dear "friend" from the wilderness. He stood, hunched over a mess of maps and papers, and seem throroughly involved inside his own head. She shook her head, and stepped further into the room, one unsure guard trailing nervously behind her. He had objected to her sudden appearance in the early hours of the dawn, when she had come demanding an audience with the lord who had summoned her. Of course, at the call of a summons the guard could not turn her away without fearing the wrath of Kaji, but he still followed aprehensively, in case the fiery temptress proved less than aggreeable.
Of course, Peira didn't make it easy. She had adorned herself in her prefered attire, the same buckskin garments that showed more skin than modesty prefered. Yet, Peira didn't give a damn what the world thought. This skin was hers, and this outfit was what defined her. Without it, the silence would be broken, and she didn't believe she would be able to accustom herself to the roar of loose, shuffling garments.
She walked silently up to his door, the leather wrappings around her feet gliding soundlessly across the worn stone. She entered his room with grace and poise, but did not immediately announce her presence.
Instead she regared him with a slightly wary eye. There breif journey together had been uneventful and she had even grown more comfortable with the man. Friendly relations did not seem completely out of Peira's way, but she still wanted, with a half a heart, to go back to the wild outskirts of fire where she was more at home. But there was still the fact of the arrow (foremost) --its memorial dissapearance still haunts her--and his true title that held back her open acceptance as Kaji as an ally. For she must rely--often times--on common sense and intuition, and it just didn't seem logical to her for a rogue to get along with a lawman--which Kaji pretty much was. A lord for pied sakes! A glare filled her eyes suddenly, and her face moved from curiousity to scorn as she remembered his deception. She gave him the benefit of the doubt: he might have wanted to avoid any unjust judgement that would automatically come along with a name, but Peira was still injured by the fact that such an important peice of knowledge was kept from her, even though she knew she probably would have become more illusive in her words to Kaji had she known, but that wasn't the point. He had kept it from her, and that still urked her a touch, though not enough to spoil any alliances between him and her--well she didn't think so.
She felt self-doubt seep into her mind as she wondered exactly why she had decided to stay inside the realm of fire. There had been no guard of Kaji's to hold her back, and there was no real advantage for her to stay with the promise to Kaji to be near when he needed her.She supposed the main reason was the simple fact that she had no where better to be. Besides, something had called to her during the duration of their trip, and though she hadn't enjoyed their journey together, she hadn't loathed it either. In some ways, Kaji's way of life attracted her, and his smooth words back in the caves had amused her. So she was here, curious to what Kaji wanted now. Why now? She shrugged and came up to the side of his desk with a smug smile on her face. One hand perched on her hip, whilst the other reached down to lean upon the surface of his desk. Her blood red hair was pulled back in a tidy braid but the few strands that escaped it, framed her face beautifully. Those sharp silver eyes glaring at Kaji--filled with mock vengeance and a smirking "howdy do". Her quiver and bow remained latched upon her backside, and she had refused to give them up at the guards beckoning. She never reliquished her weapons for any reason. They were her only security in many and most situations.
Swiftly she opened her lips to speak to him. "Hello, milord..." she started, a purposeful mockery lining the 'milord', "... I have just one question before we begin whatever conversation you had planned."
She paused deliberately, raising herself up and crossing her arms across her chest stubbornly as she awaited his attention. Once she was certain she had it, she began again.
"What happened to my arrow?"
Awaiting his responce, her face blossomed with a smirking smile of humor. But it was also very serious. She needed to know--she could never be fully comfortable with him if she didn't know. As it were she was barely comfortable with him and she still couldn't fathom exactly why she had lingered wtihin the city of Feuergeist. He had been curteous in his journey while he was still unknown to her. If he had been trying to get her to keep an open mind it had been wise of him and probably had worked well for Kaji in the end--but that was only if the man she had truly shared the road with, was the real Kaji Hito, and not just some facial concoction he constructed for his public.
She suddenly remembered poor Vantor--he who had offered to lead her here in the morning. Yet she had left without him--slipping out early just before the dawn. She didn't feel sorry for doing so. Since she was currently in a neutral stasis within her mind, she needed to find occasional outlets to be... how you say... "rogue" ooc: I need to apologize--I don't like this post very much... I need to get back into "Peira", lol

During the deliberate silence, eyes of fiery orange followed her slender copper arm to her smirking visage. Looking directly into her eyes, yet still leaning over the collage of maps, he welcomed her question.
“Very well then.”
Her question caught him. Kaji could not help but chuckle to himself. He did display a bit too much power there, did her not? The Lord of Fire stood erect and ran his fingers through his severely dark red hair while slightly stretching his back. Fire Mage Hito thought for a moment about his answer.
“Fair enough.” His fingers came to his chin for a moment and he glanced back to the maps scattered about his desk. “It is no where in particular I would think.” Kaji looked back to Peira with a grin and playful shrug. “I am sorry, but I hope that helps you, milady.” Afterwards, he turned his uniformed body to face her directly. “Now, on to a more important note…” The Fire Lord turned once again, this time to watch her from another angle.
“Where’s my lieutenant?”
Kaji hoped it would be a few minutes before anyone arrived with pertinent business which needed immediate attention. The leader of the fire nation wished to know Peira before putting her into anything too dangerous. But somehow he felt she did more within her outfit than her modestly. However this upcoming conversation could turn into more of a test of wits including many word plays. It would prove to be an interesting reunion.
ooc: sorry for the shortness... and the delayed reply... also, I'm trying to get back into Kaji sense, so I'm sorry if things are a bit off... let me know if they are please... thanks

Peira stood willing and waiting as she had been once she spoke. Her face was alight with sarcasm, smirking pleasure, a certain amiable personality that showed she was not in complete dislike of the situation. She watched as Kaji stood and ran a hand through his dark red hair--reasonably darker than her own--and for the first time realized that Kaji was not entirely unattracitive. Her first impression of him had been of his attitude and she hadn't really considered the face of the man that wielding the tongue--as irritating as it was. But now that she had a moment to see Kaji in a new light... the light of a Lord with the power of one so close made her feel suddenly small, and she was made aware of where she truly stood. She was the one with the disadvantage. With only a word, Kaji could send her away...
Her confidence struck in...
... he could try.
Yet, she was dashed from her sudden observation of the Lord Hito, and made away of his words... which seemed to be heading in the direction that she had asked. Though she was joking to some extent... she really did want to know, and when Kaji gave his answer... it was not what Peira had been expecting and a certain fury and dissapointment mingled within her eyes; the silver iris's flashing dangerously as her eyes narrowed... and her beautifully copper tone face became stern and dangerously serious.
She was tired of his games... she'd played along, listened to his smooth words and honored some of them--admittingly not all. Yet here he was, asking for her appearance and remaining vague about the whole situation. What purpose was she to him--a rogue from the mountains? She'd not asked much; would it bring about the end of the World if she knew what gift he'd used to intercept her deadly aim?
She was no longer willing to play. You can only tease a tiger so much...
Her voice suddenly whispered forth; the soft sound so deadly and cold. The sarcasm fully evolved to a temporal dislike. "You bastard..." she slid forward smoothely, closing the slight distance between them, but not venturing too near. Her arms rested upon the lip of the table and her silver eyes bore intensely into his own form. Her recklessness was coming through... and perhaps she was not being fair, but she didn't care even if she wasn't. Her question was relevant and important to her, and his cryptic round about answer was no answer at all.
Thus like a stubborn mule she refused to budge from the topic and suddenly began to crescendo into a more vibrant tone--insistant upon a more definite answer. The other business could wait. She owed him nothing. "Your lieutenant is where he is," she rushed briskly, making it obvious that she cared about his lieutenant about as much as he seemed to care about her question. Hotly, she quickly went on, "But I did not come to play word games, dance around my questions and I will certainly dance around yours!"
She paused a moment and took a deep breath, leaning back again and cross her arms once more, "So I ask again... what happened to it?" ooc: sorry mine isn't much either, I should be able to get on a bit more often now. ;D

Lord Hito was taken slightly aback with her first whispered words. He watched Peira come closer and lean upon the map-covered desk. In that instant, Kaji flashed back to the previous night when Ivalia had leaned upon his desk. He thought for a moment about last night bringing his orange eyes to no map in particular.
Kaji listened to Peira’s annoyed words as he pondered about the reality of last night. She did possess some magic and I know I felt her effects. But to what extent had she manipulated me? How much of that was merely some illusion, a trick to escape and return home? With conscious force, the Lord of Fire broke away from the questions of the past to the situation and questions of the present. He closed his eyes and listened as the rogue attempted for a second time to ask about that gripping arrow.
“Fine then.” The man recognized the games were over and actual business has begun for the day. His mind shifted back to the military man who had taken car of the arrow and the competent Fire Lord rather than the individual Kaji Hito. He opened his orange orbs to address her directly.
“I say it is no where in particular because it is not. The winds have most probably scattered any ashes which remain to the four nations. I prevented your arrow from finding its intended mark when I incinerated it.”
With the completion of the statement, a ball of flame ignites under his right hand called on by Fire Lord Hito. Immediately, yet smoothly, Kaji lifts his hands and its accompanying fire ball up and away from wood and paper. The flame danced and licked at the oxygen in the air even as it cried out for the power that the Fire Lord kept blocked from it. Lord Hito kept his eyes fixed on Peira their orange color reflecting the flame’s dance and its power.
“Does this answer satisfy you?” he asked in a calm understanding tone.
As he waited for her response, Lord Hito felt an unsteadying thing occur. The fire’s heat gradually increased and wrapped itself around the Fire Lord’s hand. Soon, it abruptly and surprisingly bit the leader of the Fire nation, its master. Without breaking his composure or his eye contact, Kaji closed his hand on the fire ball extinguishing it before it became too far out of control; he did not need Peira to notice. Kaji figured he would handle this alone while the problem is small.
Nonchalantly, Kaji dropped his arm back to his side and slid his hand into the pocket in his uniform. He wanted to hide his hand so he could pull the heat from the burn without any noticing. And so he began as the conversation proceeded.
ooc: Once again, I apologize for the wait.

Peira realized too late that Kaji might not approve of her offending and unsulting tone, her viscious words, and her certain "name calling." She was one of the unfortunate many that did not fully think through their responses before the words echoed forthwidthed. If she'd harmed his pride, it was only know that she wondered whether to relish a victory or suffer a consequence.
For a moment as she watched him, her proud confident eyes melting into a more aware and observant watchfullness. She wasn't sure what to expect from him--more words of cryptic meanings, anger, or a final admittance and answer to her question. However, she didn't really see much of any of those aspects, for Kaji seemed--for but a moment, to be lost within himself.
Anger swelled breifly before she saw him return and fix vibrant orange eyes upon her. He seemed collected, but the Kaji she'd known before was gone, and in his place stood a serious man. She didn't like it. Yes, she'd wanted a serious and straight answer, but why couldn't men find a midway point--combining seriousness and their natural personalities? This Fire Lord before her seemed powerful, omnipotent, and reletively stern and strict. His words did not move Peira from her impression, either. They seemed low, brisk... almost blunt, and Peira lifted herself from the table and leaned back aprehensively. The way he said it was also spiteful and insulting in her perspective, but then again she failed to really see how similiar her own prior vocab had been. Whatever, she only saw the now, and she was no longer feeling quite so viscious. She felt subdued by his statement, and though it unsettled her to think that he had the power to incinerate a reletively solid object into dust within seconds--no... within tens of a second--just unsettled her.
Yet, the pure fact of the matter didn't seem to be enough for him. Immediately after the sentence, he lit a ball of fire in the palm of his hand. This on its own did not frightened Peira for their were aspects of her that were unbeffiting of the average human women. Attributes she would not rightly reveal to anyone unless they were trusted allies. His fire would not burn her, unless he let it reach a level that was much more intense than the flame in his hand.
Nonetheless, she took a step back and her eyes flicked from his face, to his hand. Was he threatening her with that show of power? That's what worried her. And yet, though a resonant fear flashed through her mind, she reacted with anger, and the fury built in her eyes--her offensive as defense. But she did not use it. or reflect it openly in her face.
She couldn't be sure of his intent with the flame, but she still felt it was his arrogance, his pride that made him fuel it--that made him flaunt it and show it to her, as if to prove a point. Her opinion of him was degrading, and she had half a mind to turn around and leave.
He asked for her satisfaction. She glared at him, but did not respond immediately. Neither did she reveal a "yes" or a "no."
Instead she watched as the fire's fury increased and seemed to swell for a moment, before the lord quenchd it in the canvas of his hand--the hand which soon fled to the interior of his pocket. Peira thought nothing of it. Looking back at his face, her eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms, she gradually approached--if a touch cautiously--to the table and stood there. She opened her mouth to respond.
"Suffice to say... Nonetheless, what is this business that would desire my appearance?" She launched into the next--a newer subject. She'd rather not fight, but she was too stubborn to give in with a quiet "yes." Besides, to some extent she now wanted to find out what he wanted and leave. She didn't feel comfortable anymore, and it still worried her that he felt it necessary to flaunt his skills. She wondered if there was a point to it, and if--in worst case--it was a threatening guesture meant to put her in her place.

Orange pools carefully observed as the air around them thickened as it had the evening before. This room, unfortunately, failed to promote peace despite its lavish décor. Perhaps this lack of extended peace was due to the sheer fact it was the current Lord of Fire’s headquarters built and furnished to keep the Fire nation together in certain tranquility. All stress and tension focused into that single room… or as the gods would have it, onto that single man. The generations may someday wonder if the almighty Pyran had made a mistake when he bestowed all the power of fire to one of an inferior race. Kaji Hito hopes not. He wishes to prove the skeptics wrong.
Kaji’s eyes softened their gaze slightly when the subtly cautious approach to his desk was noticed. Releasing a heavy sigh along with all the tension, mainly from MeRyk’s insubordination and failure to report, that had built up to this moment, Lord Hito relaxed to a level appropriate for asking assistance from Lady Peira. She is not a soldier; therefore, she should not be rightly addressed as such. Slowly with left hand moving from temple to the back of his neck, Kaji moved around his desk.
“Right. The reason for the request.” The shift of subject was gratefully welcomed. In a way, it allowed for another shift, but not on the visible plane. Reaching to a cabinet door, Kaji spoke with a softer, friendlier tone. “Excuse me, but…” Kaji pulled his hand from his pocket to retrieve an item from behind his desk. Glass clinking sounded in the room. “… would you like some?” He placed a pair of short glasses along the edge of the Unclaimed Regions map before pulling a bottle of red wine to the desktop. After acknowledging and accommodating Peira’s preference, the young lord poured himself half a glass and moved back to the front of his desk.
“Here’s the situation,” he began filling his visitor in on the details. Lord Kaji Hito looked at Peira and spoke with confidence signaling to her this was the straight answer and the true reason. He watched for her to relax a bit hoping his shift in tone would bring back some of her calm. With his cold glass in hand finishing the job of cooling the burn (which now is only a remnant of the injury – it was a skill he had learned during his magery days), he spoke of his plans while vaguely gesturing between her form and his maps scattered upon his desk as appropriate conversation allowed. Placing the glass next to a figure representation of Pyran, Kaji continued, “I am to meet Master Satazian of Soil in a week or so; correspondence as to the day will be sent soon once Fire’s diplomatic party is ready. This rendezvous is meant for discussion only; however, I cannot afford to be stupid and not think of the safety of myself, the men and women under my command, and my nation. I cannot allow my mistakes to become their problems.” Kaji fingered the maps and traced the Fire nation’s border. Once again, the lord slipped into his thoughts, this time of loyalty and his beloved nation.
Bringing orange orbs back to focus upon Peira with a gentle smile upon his face, Kaji Hito noticed a certain light about her figure. With the morning sun glistening playfully around the room, the lady’s form seemed to glow. Her hair appeared to reflect the sum coming through the window in a golden hue. Meanwhile, silver pools mirrored a fiery spirit while the Fire Lord’s own eyes took in her beauty with a softened gaze. He smiled reassuringly before continuing on with his request.
“I hope it is safe to assume you are a very observant young woman who does not allow much pass her watchful eye.” Extending his hand in a small gesture, he paused to permit any response its time and in an attempt to show her he is still on friendly terms. “And so, I was wondering if I could have permission to utilize your skills to protect my group during this up-coming meeting. I would like you to accompany me.” Kaji grinned and his visage took on a more youthful appearance.
Reclaiming his wine from the desktop, Lord Hito took another sip and a cursory glance at the palm of his right hand. It had healed quickly enough. At its current condition, it may be mistaken for a shadow in the morning light. The young lord replaced his drink and looked back to Peira listening for her reply.

What valiant messanger would interrupt without presentation? Who would dare? I tell, you... one would dare whom does not follow laws of man, but merely accepts them... and acts out when it feels it must. Now was one of those times, but the messanger had instinct to guide him, and every right to intrude--a right bestowed upon him by the small empty corridors that lined the important building... leading both in and out. They were no larger than twice the size of a man's head... and to an experienced messanger... no danger to trespess. And so it was, with an announcing cry... a mohoghany shaded falcon zipped casually into the confines. Giving no heed or attention to the fact that it may very well be interuptting something of similiar importance.
It landed, gracefully... yet happ-hazardly upon the desk closest to the man--whose scent and appearance had been instilled within the young bird's mind by trainer's garments and tricks. It chirped severally times, pacing gently within the space before settling comfortably and confidently upon the maps--blocking the conversation undoubtably. There it perched... waiting patiently for the note about it's leg to be removed. As soon as it were... he would release back into flight again--back to its master.
No reply was intended, and thus... the young raptor would wait for none.
The note read:
Great Lord, It has come to our attention, that a vagabond has strolled into the outskirts of this national region. It is stated that she is of water, named "Kagami" with long violet hair--a blindfold across her eyes. The story is not as certain as we would like, but a witness and victim of her personality has sworn certain details. I feel he is a reputable man, and one whose word can be trusted. He feels the intruder is dangerous, with plausible and evidencial intent to cause harm among Fire's residence. Whether the plot is calculated or happenstance, the informer could not be sure.
Nonetheless, it may desire or attention sir. -Master Garrend, Falcon Master of the Setine Village.
ooc: sorry, if it may seem a touch intrusive. I'm leaving as u may know, but I still felt I might as well finish up what I can of my original intent before I go--that way it doesn't appear as if Kaos merely vanished. Sorry I can't follow-up the plot.

Peira watching cautiously from a distance as Kaji retreated and took up two glasses and a bottle of wine. PEira was not in a strict fancy to drink, and being rather irritated at the moment... she refused the offer with a brisk shake of her head.
Her colored hair fell around her face in whisps as the air captured and held it before allowing it to settle back around her features. The morning sun had lit it on fire, and it almost seemed a shade of orange instead of the vibrant red it undoubtably reflected. Silver eyes shined down upon him, apprehension still thick within them, even as he took his own glass and moved away from her--speaking of his need for her "skills." He hardly knew her! What would leave him to trust her for such a mission. She was but a rogue from the mountains, nothing more and nothing less, and she would be damned if she had any wish to become muddled in military affairs.
Peaceful my ass... she muttered within her own mind as she looked away from him to glare thoughtfully around the room. How could she give such an important question a quick answer? Whether Kaji knew it or not, asking her to leave the security of her homeland and venture to meet an opposing Lord was a touch more intimidating to her, a young woman not yet thirty. What if this "meeting" was not so peaceul, but was to result in a delcared war? She would thus become an associated person of Kaji's military group, would she not. An accomplis to his actions. She wanted nothing less than to say no to his preposal, but something kept her from uttering those words as quickly as she should have.
The bird.
It rushed in with such intrusive vigor that she gasped beneath her breath at the startling appearance of the raptor. She left the table with a hastiness that was rather unexpected. For, you see, Peira was not a fan of birds, nor did she like the idea of those sharp talons and beaks that the larger predetors did possess. She wanted nothing to do with it, and withdrew from the table and the maps that now served as the falcon's perch. To cover for her sudden start she quickly blurted to Kaji as she whirled away from him. "Deal with your... your... bird," she found the word, "I'll think about it."
With that she turned her back to him and looked out the window at the freedom in the sky--the warm sun flitted across the stone and down upon the citizens of her homeland. This was were she belonged, and she was perfectly satisfied with her life here, no matter how lowly it would seem. True enough she had to work for a lot of what she got, and living on its own seemed to have a large price to pay and make up for. Sure enough, life out there was probably no harder than here, but atleast she knew how to get along here. She knew the people, knew the places. Outside Fire's borders were new worlds, new experiences, new danger. Hell, she liked this danger. She could handle this danger. It was the promise of that danger that frightened her, and in all reality she never wanted to see any of the other leaders if she could manage it. Hell, she never really ever wanted to meet Kaji--no offense to the man, but the title was enough to intimidate anyone.
And yet, as she thought about it... the more she wanted to go. The more she consider stepping outside, the more she wanted to. It would be a new adventure... but was it worth it? That's what she needed to decide. Was it worth the hassle, worth the danger? Would she always be caught up within the military if she said yes? Or would Kaji provide her free rein afterwords as she was and had been?
She smiled to herself. Realizing that if he didn't, he'd truly have to tie her up and drag her about, because she certainly wouldn't succomb to anything she didn't want to do. So, though there were a lot of cons that made her desires a "no" answer. There were a few attractive features that made her lean towards a shaky yes. Of course, there would be some conditions. She was afterall a rogue, and in her world... nothing came without a price. Not to worry though, she wouldn't ask for much. She really only had one thing she'd lusted over since she was a young girl... and ironically and unfortunately for her pride that was a horse. Don't get me wrong, she didn't want just any old pack mule. She wanted a bonafide horse, a war-horse to be exact. Some loyal animal that would prove useful to her a provide an advantage for her, when times were hard. Plus, a good horse could bring in good dollar. If times got rough, she'd have an income to fall back on. Of course, there were still other conditions--more important ones, but the equine was a side-note she was not likely to forget.
Turning back around, she presented herself to Kaji, looking from bird to man. Was he done yet? With arms crossed she waited patiently--for once. When he was done, she'd state her terms.

Hey Peira. Glad to see you back.
Okay. Well, life is calming a bit with things starting to finish... That makes sense, right? Anyway, I still need just a bit of time to gather thoughts, write it, and actually post it. I promise to get the post up as soon as I am able. I hope this is alright with you.

Realizing this was no request for a hasty answer, the Fire Lord was fully willing to wait for her reply. He wanted to allow her the appropriate time to think it over and ponder the possibilities. Watching while taking in her natural beauty laced with fire, Kaji noticed the thought in her distant silver eyes; he hoped she was thinking the offer over with a reasonable mind-set. Kaji hoped the overwhelming responsibility did not become too powerful for the young bandit. With another glance at the woman, he gave her a quick nod acknowledging her thoughts. Orange orbs followed the golden sun’s rays from his visitor to his desktop. Casually he reclaimed his glass to gaze upon the scattered maps beneath.
It was then when a blur of feathers penetrated his view of the lands. Kaji looked up from his desk just in time to catch Peira’s startled retreat; he understood, or he thought as much. It had taken him a couple of weeks at least to become accustomed to the flying messengers from across the country before he stopped jumping back at their unexpected arrivals. The Lord of Fire watched her for but the moment she allowed before she dismissed him back to ‘his bird’.
Readjusting his focus back to the business now at hand, Lord Hito found the falcon had already found his perch on top his nest of maps and military documentation. With his announcing chirps finishing their echo about the room, the fire mage reached for the message tied around the bird’s leg. Gently with a steady hand, the Fire Lord removed the message. Instantly, the bird took back to the air. A bit startled, Kaji watched as the falcon disappeared back into the labyrinth of Feuergeist. Slowly, his eyes found their way back to the note. I guess this is not that kind of message… Unfolding the correspondence, the young leader read.
Gradually, the lord’s visage shifted from the formally pleasant look to a more serious troubled look as the falcon master’s message took hold of the leader’s mind. The clink of glass on wood resounded once again. Why? This cannot be Water’s sick method of retaliation against her capture! No! The Rain Mistress would first send some soldiers or diplomatic correspondence at least before issuing an attack against the Fire nation and it would not be a vagrant least of all. Kaji wheeled around back towards the grand door. It must be a mere bandit looking for some extra thrills. Quickly closing the distance between him and the door, Kaji opened the door just enough to address the guard standing just outside. Quietly, yet with certain intent, Lord Hito ordered, “Summon Major Fredel here. I have orders.” “Yes, sir,” the acknowledgement came swiftly enough as the loyal guard made his way to the opposite side of the building.
Immediately after the first acknowledging syllable reached his ears, Fire Lord Kaji Hito shifted his weight back towards his desk. Upon sitting, Kaji retrieved a piece of parchment from his desk drawer and the pen from the ink well on the outskirts of the map plain scattered across his desktop. As soon as he had finished inscribing a few general instructions and a couple commanding names upon the parchment, a knock at the door drew his gaze from his handwriting. Major Fredel entered with silenced footsteps; only the words “Major Fredel reporting as requested” announcing his presence in the room. He is a young man – who had work steadily up in rank – with a body made for the speed inherited through his family bloodline. The major stands tall at 5’ 10” with reddish-brown short hair and a slightly freckled face from daily outside work with the dragons.
Briskly, Major Fredel strode across the room to stop in front of the Fire Lord’s desk to receive a small rolled up parchment. Before even glimpsing at the instructions in his hand, Lennox Fredel kept at attention for the verbal instructions which were surely to come and soon enough, those expected directions did. He was a soldier who had learned quickly the conversation is not over until the subordinate was duly dismissed. With a moment passed in silent thought, Kaji finally decided upon the right words standing to address the major on appropriate terms.
“I want three teams assembled. The first is to move out immediately to address this problem.” Kaji handed over another piece of parchment after copying over relative names and general locations as well as the village from which the message was sent from the original falcon message. “Bring her here for questioning. We need answers before we do anything more to address international relations. Squad two is to be ready to move out as soon as MeRyk reports with the battle’s specific location and those names of the soldiers and dragons involved in Shephard’s Fields. They have a right to proper rest within our beloved homeland and their families to closure. Make sure you have a complete list of the men and dragons enlisted into MeRyk’s troop before moving out.” Releasing Fredel from his authoritative gaze, Kaji returned his fiery attention back to his maps and documents scattered across the cherry woodwork. He collected the message and a few letters including that from the Master of Soil into an organized collection. “I will assemble the third myself and prepare them for the rendezvous with Master Satazian of Soil.” Looking around at nothing in particular, Kaji wondering about the preparations and if there was something else Fredel could do for him at the moment. “That is all for the moment. Thank you, Lennox.”
The major turned to leave and had reached the door when the Fire Lord’s voice penetrated through the thick air once again. “One final thing, Major Fredel. I want you to lead the first squad. Report to me when your team is assembled and ready to move. Dismissed.” Looking up from the papers in his hands, Kaji caught Lennox just as he came out of the customary bow. Just as quickly and silently as he had come, Major Fredel turned and left the room to attend to his business. It had been a while since Lennox was given an assignment with a bit of danger involved – since the neutrality of the nations forbid any individual from crossing the borders with malignant intent – and he looked forward to the possibility of some extra thrill. At his hurried pace through the halls, Fredel encountered and gave hasty greetings to one Lieutenant Vantor and, though brisk, an appropriate nod to his female companion. “I guess it’s started,” Van whispered shortly to himself hoping his lord and friend would not be in too foul a mood to meet new recruits and allies.
Casually crossing the short distance between his desk and the bookshelves, Kaji placed the small stack of documents in their appropriate slot to wait sorting. With that business at least addressed and begun, Lord Hito turned back to his current visitor, Lady Peira. For a moment, he thought he saw a smile curl at the corner of her lips and for the instant he wondered at the reason. However, with more important matters at hand – the safety of his nation for instance – Kaji let the drifting thought fall into the darkness of abandoned thoughts left for nighttime wanderings to ponder. “Well then. Back to business. Lady Peira, have you decided? Know that I am not rushing you nor am I forcing a decision upon you. It is your freedom and I will not encroach upon that right.”
With undivided attention, Kaji listened to her terms and her decision. She could prove a strong ally; he did not wish to insult her. Kaji, though readying himself for the oncoming war, seemed the calm and collected man he has always tried to put forth in the public’s eyes.

Peira listened to the scene unfold with a rather blurred attention. She just didn't care, to put it bluntly. War had always hung above her head, an side note to all her adventurings. Surely, it would only prove dangerous if she were to stumble outside of fire's borders, or if Fire was to fall beneath an invasion. Yet, she felt comfortable in herself, she could mimic a human easily, the only thing that made her loyal to Pyran was his gift of tolerance. Fire did not hurt her, but that was all--a gift easily hidden. She trusted herself and her ability to dissapear if necessary.
It would appear, Kaji had more to think about than just meeting with another lord. Domestic troubles, eh...? she spurred within her own mind--within a sanctuary of which Kaji's smooth words could not intrude. It was a dry humor that echoed through her mind, but not enough to drag out a sarcastic smile... though it did flit across her eyes.
Turning back to him, when his attention fell back to her, Peira remained thoughtful, lavishing this little bit of power she presently had over him. Though he promised a sence of hastelessness... the perceptive theif could not help but feel he was more rushed and harried than he wished. She took her time.
"ok." she answered suddenly, filling the silence almost too quickly to be heard. She looked once more out the window before turning her head and body to look squarely at him. Her eyes were serious, she was neither playing, nor did she want to be played.
"I'll go, but I'll not be bonded to any long term commitment. I follow on my own terms, and nothing shall be held over me..." she paused again, rethinking her demands. It sounded almost ridiculous for her to ask for what she was about to, but... well... she really wanted one. It would help her in the long run.
"A horse, master Kaji. I shant walk the whole way there, and it is my only price." she glanced at his uniform, realizing that he might insist.
She begrudgingly would comply if asked, but she could not submit without a comment of her own, "I suppose, it would be best for me to wear your irritable, baggy soldier's attire... would it not?"
She couldn't help but insult the uniform, though its appearance was not unfashionable, she just didn't want to wear it. It made so much noice compared to her deerskin clothes, that she kept tightly woven against her body. Even now, in a fading winter she wore only the bare minimum, but she was indoors, dare say she had other warmer garments awaiting her at the door.
She tilted her weight to the side, supporting her weight on one leg while the other cocked itself comfortably. Crossing her arms like a stubborn little girl, she offered him a defeated smile, but it was warm and slightly sincere. She was ready to comply. She didn't hate Kaji Hito, she didn't even really dislike him. He had his moments that she couldn't care less for him, but all in all he seemed a decent type. She just had to make everyone's life miserable... it was what made her Peira.

Her short okay almost surprised him in its suddenness, but it was her next set of terms which followed that singular syllable which had caught him. She is a definite independent spirit. Still he continued to listen. After all, it was her right as a citizen and even as his guest to answer with no if is so wished. Her price was not too high either. Considering what he had asked, he thought she was quite reasonable indeed. Kaji believed she could be a very nice individual… when she wanted to be. However, it was the bluntness in her final comment which was hardest for the Fire Lord to believe. Even when confronted with the leaders bless by the gods, her tongue remained harsh and almost venomous. Why must I find the difficult ones? The fire mage asked himself in sarcasm referring to both Lady Peira as well as the spiteful Lady Atalopai.
“Yes, milady. That would be best knowing future company.” With a nod, the Fire Lord continued to comply with her requests. “I also promise that you are not in any sense committed to the military.”
Kaji moved back to the entrance to his military quarters. He turned back to Lady Peira with a sincere smile. “Let us make proper preparations.” After a subtle gesture for his guest to follow, the Lord of Fire disappeared back into torch-lit hallway. Within the minute, he came to another set of offices – those for diplomatic and political uses (the desk jobs in government and military). Knocking, Lord Hito announced his morning arrival. Greetings were quickly exchanged before the business began rolling again.
“Any news from Sergeant Major Asan or Brigadier General Wilhelm MeRyk yet?”
“Nothing from Lord MeRyk as of yet, but the Sergeant Major has left with a few men to search for him in the city an hour ago. We have not heard from him just yet.” The voice was from one of the younger privates who worked under a supervising officer. She seemed to know her way around now, but that was only after a good four to six months of service with her confidence growing with each day.
“Thank you, Private Rin.” Under his breath, Kaji scoffed – “This is getting frustrating.” Looking around the room, he asked, “where is Sergeant Stone?” The private pointed him to the back room used for storing records and other such nation documents. Kaji turned back to guide Peira to the back room. He found the sergeant as well as a few other officers filing what seemed to be case records. The quiet room was filled with shelves and scroll cubes just as the few the Fire Lord’s quarters possessed.
Breaking the silence, Lord Hito’s smooth voice found his subordinate’s ears. “Excuse me, Sergeant Stone. If you would not mind taking a break from filing, I have a favor to ask.” Filing the paper in hand, a woman of blonde locks turned in the Fire Lord’s direction. She nodding a recognition before he continued to ask. “If you would, please help Lady Peira with her accommodations. She needs a uniform suited for her form as well as a horse of her choice. Please guide her and help her feel comfortable for the time being.” Sergeant Stone nodded and Lord Hito turned back to find Peira. He gestured to the sergeant…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lieutenant Vantor, who accompanied the fiery Storm, turned in time to catch someone enter the offices a little further down the hall from Lord Hito’s own room. Passing by, he glanced and found no one in the Fire Lord’s headquarters; he continued to the offices after greeting a few fellow soldiers in the hall. Upon entering, Van found his desk covered with the documents he had left the night before in addition to what seemed extra work. He slumped and sighed realizing just how late he had arrived to work. Looking up having heard Kaji’s voice, the lieutenant felt his heart racing. Quickly, his brown eyes spotted his lord in the far doorway.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
… Gesturing to the sergeant, Kaji Hito spoke to Lady Peira. “I hope you do not mind, but I am going to leave you in the hands of the sergeant here.” He looked past her shoulder to find his young lieutenant searching around the room. “Besides… it seems I have other business to tend to." Smiling, Lord Hito excused himself with a nod leaving the women to their own thought and conversation.
“You’re late,” Kaji called out in jest. Instantly Lieutenant Vantor perked in embarrassment; his face shifted crimson as he struggled and stuttered with apology. Even as Van bowed his head, Kaji sighed slightly supporting his forehead in his fingers. Raising his hand, the young fire lord shook his head. “Van, honestly… don’t worry about it. Sometimes I wonder whether you realize or not that I’m the same guy. So… what is your report?”
Lieutenant Vantor calmed himself enough before beginning. “I have brought with me an individual who wishes to join the military. She is a gifted individual who I believe will become a valueable assest to our team. Her name is Storm.” Shifting his weight to an angle between Fire Lord Hito and Storm, Vantor reached his hand back to Storm offering it to her if she wished.
“Good morning, Miss Storm.” He offered his hand and a bow of his head as he introduced himself. “I am Fire Lord Kaji Hito. Please to meet you.” The air about the room seemed of a lighter weight despite its bustle and noise; it was Kaji’s attempt to keep everyone as relaxed as they allowed themselves. Lord Hito dismissed the lieutenant of his duty to Storm and moved to converse with the new recruit.
So many things were now happening in this singular room…
… The blonde woman bowed with clipboard in hand to the fiery Peira as she introduced herself as Sergeant Lily Stone of the fifth division.
… Vantor meandered back to his desk calling if anyone has yet heard from Colonel Da’mon concerning the incident from the night before.
… Various subordinates hurried about as the fulfilled their duties.
… Fire Lord Hito turned on his charm and smooth tongue hoping to acquaint himself with the newly arrived Storm.
ooc: Okay… sorry if it seems it just stops, but I think it is long enough for now and I am stuck anyway without replies from Peira and Storm… so I apologize for it being later than I originally thought and for the muse going dry towards the end… Anyway, things can start moving quicker now.

“Please let the Gods be merciful” Storm whispered under her own hot breath trailing so closely behind her new found friend Lieutenant Vantor. Her white somewhat delicate hand played with the strings on her Grecian robe. Her other found the cool wall of the barracks, her thin fingertips gliding effortlessly as they searched for the missing Fire Lord. At least he appeared to be missing. He was not where he was supposed to be, to Storm, that was missing. The pair began to weave in and out of offices, some of which Storm enjoyed laying her eyes upon. Others, not so much. She watched Van carefully as he made his way through the endless corridors and lively cubicles in which the Military resided during the day time hours. Her orange eyes traced every piece of furniture, every active body present. She did not desire to miss any important detail. This was her chance.
Van exchanged his heartfelt hellos and kind salutations as they made their way to what appeared to be his desk. Covered in the normal clutter and unending supply of paper, Storm looked to the stacks of undone work with horror. What pain she found in desk work. How could Vantor take such nonsense? At least to her it was nonsense, unrelentless and harmful to her health. Storm desired field work, although she knew paper work was a necessary evil to any profession, it tore at her insides just looking at it.
Storm watched Van’s body rise and fall. What on earth was wrong? She stood her ground and looked from him to the hall; her blond red hair now tamed and tied back in a loose braid, refreshed from her nights stay at Vantor’s residence. Her appearance was feminine, more so than usual. Clean and glowing, she was unused to her gleaming golden skin.
Apart of her loathed what she saw when she followed Van’s complete gaze to the far doorway. A man, but not just any man, the Fire Lord himself. Her surroundings began to close in on her as she watched the man approach them. Her fiery gaze never leaving the tall dark and handsome now speaking directly to the lowly Vantor. The words seemed to resound in her skull…
”You’re late.”
She watched in disgust the scene before her. Van seemed to worship this man in more than one way. Van feared him, something Storm would never do, was fear a man. No matter how powerful, all men are tamable.
Listening and glancing almost coldly at the Lord, Van introduced her. She stepped forward neglecting the open hand of the Lieutenant, eyes never leaving those of Kaji’s. She felt uncomfortable in his gaze, her feminine detail exposed more than normal, she was vulnerable in his sights. Still her face remained defined and serious. Her breath even and heart calm.
Her voice was grave but soft, she found it quickly and demonstrated she was not all the beauty she seemed. Storm did not desire to be seen that way, only men saw what they wanted, no matter how hard a woman tried to cover it up. She took his hand and griped it comfortably but firmly.
“Please to finally meet you myself Lord Hito. I am honored to an extent.”
She smiled calmly to break the ice between them. Storm watched Van be issued away and patiently she waited for the long awaited conversation to begin, her eyes following her new friend to the door.

Nearly black his eyebrow raised in question. “To an extent,” he repeated. His smile genuine, Kaji laughed politely more for himself than anyone else. Orange eyes fell back to hers with a serene softness. “I like you. Honest and not afraid of me. That’s good.”
He held her hand for an extended moment making note of her determined grip and the strong personality it represented. Tracing a path from her hand, his orange orbs took their time to finally find her speckled orange eyes. Like a gentleman he had not wandered far from his intended track – not too far at least – still trying to sample her beauty without seeming overly brash. His eyes smiled as they met hers.
“What say you we take this out and about?”
His hand released its grip but did not drop her hand. He cradled her seemingly delicate fingers in his harsher gently holding her at his side as he escorted her into the relative quiet of the hallway. Torches flickered and soldiers passed by as Kaji walked with Storm. Angling himself to take a better look at her, the young mage found her beauty quite appealing. Firelight played in her hair and along her copper-toned flesh. She glowed despite the lack of full late morning sunlight within the volcano – this building has parts both inside and out the mountain; they were in the inner portion. Taking a breath, the Fire Lord broke the silence between them.
“So what would you like to do… like to see? Would you prefer to go somewhere specific and explore rather than returning to my office? I am sure the lieutenant took you there first anyway.”
Kaji Hito smiled his eyes finding hers awaiting her answer.

Storm smiled genuinely at the Fire Lord’s candidness. She felt more comfortable than she had when she had first arrived. She had expected much more, well, at least much more raving masculinity from this “wild mustang” called Lord. She set her eyes on his face, taking in his darker features. He indeed was a man.
Their eyes met and she smiled like a woman would. Full and almost loving. He was quite a character, and she knew he would suit her as a valuable friend. She had hardly noticed his touch still lingered after their handshake, she was sure he was admiring her, and for this Storm was flattered, but hardly moved. Her purpose was hardly small talk, but she was sure she’d eventually get to address what she was there for if she waited with patience. So, Storm relaxed.
When he spoke, she listened. When he moved, she glided at his side, her caramel skin glowing in the dim light of the hallway. She watched the fire play on the lit torches, it dance and sway as they made their way past.
Storm smiled slightly and brushed her red-blond hair behind her. She sighed, somewhat impatient, and then turned toward him.
“I truly don’t know where I would like to go, I’ve never had a chance to even set foot in the City for many years.”
She looked ahead almost lost in thought.
“How about we venture through, where ever it is busy. Do they have a market? It is late morning; there should be someplace that has one. If not, escort me to your favorite place, I am not knowledgeable enough to choose.”
Storm looked at him with a playful twinkle in her eye. She knew he knew the area best and would take her wherever he pleased anyway. Why did she have to choose? She picked up her pace a little quicker, lighter on her feet than normal; she was ready to explore. Not only that, she was trying to get the man to smile more, he seemed quick to me amused, and she enjoyed seeing another smiling face, even if he was the Fire Lord.
Then her smiled faded a little. She slowed and turned to him once again.
“When we are finished with where ever you have chosen to go, do you mind if we find a place to discuss?”
She looked at him with anticipation and good hope for her future. She wanted it more than anything to belong someplace, and this was her chance.

“Then we shall go into the city,” he declared after her comment, “and reacquaint you to the heart of the Fire nation. The market is open now.”
With a relaxed smile on his face, Kaji Hito escorted his guest to the exit on the other side of the structure. A military facility was not the place to reintroduce a long-lost friend to the Fire nation and the people who call it home. He smiled with her as her excited attitude filled him with a relaxed sense that he rarely has a chance to enjoy. Even so, this was business and the Lady Storm reminded him of it. Stopping before him, she made a polite request for a formal audience with Fire’s Lord. The man nodded his recognition and acceptance.
“We can find a quiet place for that, but let’s visit the market for now.” Gently he offered her his hand and gestured back down the hall. Before leaving the building, the military commander made sure to let a guard know where they would be able to find him.
Stepping onto the mountain side, Kaji paused for a moment to enjoy the sun. Winter had finally broken after what seemed forever. Being so used to the heat of the volcano, this passed winter was harsh even if it was dampened by the warm embrace of the mountain. Kaji turned to look at Storm in true sunlight. His golden-orange eyes smiled with the view. She was indeed beautiful so he just admired her for a little bit longer before taking her to their destination.
“Shall we?” He lifted his arm taking in the city’s streets. There was a market down the road, but he much preferred the walk. Sunlight always revitalized him and reminded him of the glory of his god. The red of his hair came forth from the black in the sun’s rays nearly matching the red in his uniform.
Walking through the streets, yes he greeted the citizens, he kept his attention with Storm for the most part for the professional reasons as well as for more personal reasons. She was very interesting to him and frank. He enjoyed her forthright personality and honest requests.
Upon entering the local market place, people rushed here and there buying this and that. Stands lined the street. Vendors sold everything from fresh fruits and butchered meats, to trinkets and metal working services. The occasional entertainer also passed by offering any number of shows from puppet shows and juggling small flames to quenching the adult thirsts.
“Where would you like to start? Would you like anything, my dear?”
ooc: arg... I just hate when the muse runs dry at the end
