Alright, so... I've gotten comments about Algaësia's name...
As some of you may know, "Alagaësia" is the setting of the novel, Eragon.
So in fact, there is only one letter seperating our "Algaësia" from that "Alagaësia". Thus, some people have visited our site on the pretenses that they are coming to view a fan-type rpg based on the book, Eragon.
Let's just say they were either a touch dissapointed or a touch annoyed that our name is so similiar, but our content so different.
Anyways, I'm heavily considering changing the name to go with the new layout (yes, yes... a new layout is coming. The brown has begun to annoy me, so we're now going to go with a new layout style and red theme).
It won't be a drastic change, the general appearance & pronunciation of the word will remain the same, but the sound will be a touch different.
We're planning to change it from Algaësia to Alraënia.
We even have an 'in-character' reason for the change. It is as follows:
When the world was created, the gods left it nameless. It was as their races battled and warred, saturating the earth with blood and chaos, that a name developed.
The land came to be called Alraënia... a word derived for the symbolism of hell, hate, and war... a word produced out of an ancient line of text, a language nearly dead, all but forgotten.
Alraënia was a blood term, defining in its meaning the dark concepts of bloodshed and slaughter. It was a fitting name for the world at that age of time.
But this was a name that was prone to change with the times. The world could not always symbolize such hate and malice for all eternity could it?
Apparently not, for as the world settled into a neutral era--an age of peace--the people began to call her by a new name...
...Algaësia.
It was a polar opposite. Another word from that very same language--the acronym for destruction and abuse. In its syllables it defined in its meaning tranquility and serenity--a subtle peace.
And that is how the world was named, for years and years after, until almost all had forgotten the dark past and the dark name.
But Alraënia is not dead. Again the term rises into claim as war brews once more.
The world is awakening into a viscious thing, like it once was. So the rebirth of Alraënia begins.
...and this time it will not change again. The world will always be in chaos, even through peace... Alraënia will exist, so as never to allow those to forget, the bloodshed which she portrays.
So there it is. ^_^ I think it's a good idea, and it shouldn't inconvenience any of you. Up until now, the world was Algaësia, so you don't need to worry about modifying posts or changing stats, or anything like that.
I will create another thread to help step yall smoothely through the transition. Please read it. It will detail everything to make this whole concept make more sense if it still seems confusing to you. If you have any questions, we're all ears. But please make sure you read this thread and the 'step-through' as some of your questions might be answered in one of those two threads.
