Birds drifted over head, lazily letting the breeze choose their path as the daylight dwindled. That same breeze pulled at the valley's treetops and the field's grasses. The solitary river meandering through the valley rippled at the breeze's pull. With the ever-ranging breeze came the smell and smoke of a fire, something unnatural to the forest, but common to those of fire within the mountains.
Down the meandering stream came the breeze, playing upon all matter of things, until it found the body of a child along the river bank. It pulled at what strands of blonde hair were dry for half of her slender form remained within the cool waters. Face down in the grassy bank she looked as though sleeping. She looked more like a glass doll than a living child. The fish hovering around her toes failed to wake her as well as she tickling of the grass on her bare arms and face. The smell of smoke did nothing to jar her senses, nor did the sounds made by the traveller.
The child's world remained dark as the sky turned from blue to shades of brilliant reds and deep purples. Soon the stars would surface and another day would end. The number of days this girl had seen were unknown to the fish, even to her softly breathing body. It was a wonder nothing had come of her frail being.

Demitrius landed his leather boots softly upon the earth in a valley known to him. Peaceful and very attractive, the scenery gave forth a brilliant stream and beautiful ruins. He loved to come here often...especially at the end of the day, as day turned into night and afternoon to twilight. Relaxing his angelic wings he placed his hands in his trouser pockets and trampled over the lush grass along the small stream. As he walked he remembered his hunt, the taste of blood and the sinking of his sharp fangs into the flesh of his prey. He had kept to hunting animals, for it was one thing to kill one animal naturally, but killing a human was messy and required a certain amount of cover-up. One of them could not go missing as easily as a wild beast. His craving for human blood never ceased inside him but his struggle to control himself was now routine. Still content from his meal, he ran his fingers through his jet black hair and watched the birds fly overhead. What wonders flight gives, the feeling of freedom and absolute blithe. The Gods have surely blessed all with wings, for no one with such a gift should be sorrowful. His indigo eyes grew a soft shade of blue and his expression was selfless. Continuing onward he picked up the aroma of smoke. An odd scent for this area of neutral lands, certainly the smell was distant but it still disturbed Demitrius slightly. His expression changed to show grief. Is this the smell of war? One cannot tell any longer, for the peace among the Gods has been disturbed. What shall come of the elemental future? He looked down onto his chest and pulled up his pendant to take a closer look. He rubbed his fingers along the onyx stone, an array of elemental symbols that he held close to his heart. Never will I liberate my belief. Demitrius soon came up along side the stream; close enough to hear the soft trickling noise. He peered down along the bank and as he leaned forward he came to see a child. Obviously female her age he could not guess, but neither would be attempt to. He took a step back and his expression became puzzled. He pondered weather to wake the small one laying on the earth. I should wake her for night is coming. She will get ill if she keeps herself submerged like that, but still, my appearance may be a bit overwhelming. I will try to be as gentle with her as possible. Kneeling down on the earth he looked at her with compassion. Holding his wings back, his head cocked with curiosity he looked more an angel than anything else. Demitrius did not want to scare her, but he was not sure what a little child would make of him. Her blonde hair and body seamed so delicate as he leaned in to touch the slumbering child. As he bent closer he took as much caution as possible, things this age in time were more than what they seemed, even him, a diamond in the rough. But still, her body appeared as...if he would touch her she would crumble beneath his finger tips. Extending his arm to its full length he reached out slowly and placed his hand on the child's left shoulder, brining his other hand up behind his head. His eyes deep pools of purple now watched intently as he shook the little woman wondering if she would stir.

Life is irreplacible. All life is something to be treasured and held close to a heart. Once granted, given as a gift to a shell, life cannot be stolen from you. A being may choose to give it up, relinquish the sanctity of breath for another's, or fail to want to live. Another may try and end a life, but the end comes only when someone chooses to accept it as their fate.
The girl wanted to live.
Her desire to live had washed her from her home to float quietly until the lapping river waters pushed her to shore where she had rested until another life came to find her little body.
Life is warmth. The child was anything but warm there in the shallows. The life that held her shoulder, however, burned with the furiocity of life. Its essence called to her in a quiet way, urging her to once again see the world she so desperately fought to stay a part of.
Soft, dark lashes flitted like butterflies between flowers. Even the fading light proved too much for her sensitive eyes, but the life inside her wanted to be moving once more. It wanted to laugh and cry, scream and dance, console and be consoled. Her lashes fluttered again, but it was so much harder to move than her life wished it would be. The life inside of the young girl swelled, threatened to burst from her chest, lips and, mind, but while her heart pulsed, wind rythmically filled her chest, and her mind whirred, the girl's limbs remained motionless. Her life wanted so much to move, but her mind and body wanted so much to sleep fitfully.
Her blue lips quivered and she could smell the starch films of smoke on the winds that trickled over her bare arms. Signs of her body slowly regaining its senses. Somewhere in the depths of her, the girl found the strength to lift her lashes. Lovely dark blue eyes hid beneath them. The girl waiting a moment, as if trying to understand that the feet and thin fabric being warped by the gently flowing river were a part of the consciousness that saw them. Her eyes closed.
Heart ramming, breath flowing softly, she opened them again and traced the feet to legs, the legs to her torso. A hand in the grass to the left. That was hers, too. A foot and a knee beside that, but those weren't hers. Further up that knee was a body. Someone else. As she traced the torso to a neck and then a face, the girl wondered why the face and sky and ground grew blurry. Her eyes closed.
Her lips moved to form words. "Who... are you?" Innocence. Those dark blue eyes watched him steadily, trying to see the man clearly.

He looked down on the child, his eyes burning with a want to turn away from her innocence. He pulled his arm away from her slowly and watched her awakening with wonder. It had been forever since he had seen a child, especially a young girl. He could not deal with the naive ways a child worked, what feelings for all life flooded in their emotion and in their veins, the fear that came quickly or not at all. Demitrius in fact was afraid, not of what the child would think of him but of what in deed would happen to the child if he thirsted for her blood. Her life was new, a life that he did not want to end. A war that raged inside him for centuries was now re-awoken and as difficult as it was he tried hard not to show his mental strain upon his facial expression. His eyes still captured the peace of his surroundings as he focused back on the young girl. He saw her look about as if looking for something new...and then her eyes shut once again. Demitrius was now worried, she just awoke she could not be dying, why was this child here and where had she come from? His questions he would keep for later if the girl could indeed answer and had not traveled forth into the heavens. Finally with soft word she spoke. A question for him, one he was not sure he could answer. His life was longer than what most beings would ever hope to live and he could never remember being a child like the one who laid in the grass before him. She had asked a question he asked the Gods many times... "Who am I?" He asked the child in return in a soft mellow voice. "My name child, is Demitrius Octavia." He said, hoping that would be enough for the girl. His eyes remained locked with her face now, deep pools of indigo, black hair floating in the breeze. He still was an angel. To what extent was never determined and he thought he would let the girl decide. He tried not to smile. His sharp fangs were sure to draw her attention and either spark the rounds of questions that some children often would ask, or extreme fear and hatred for what was not understood...although he wanted to keep his distance, the child left off an aroma that he enjoyed, a hunger within, something to eat...but she was only a child, and he pushed the scent from his mind. This child represented life in all forms as all children did. Although life burned within him he had never had the innocence of one as small as she, never had the wonder of discovery. All the knowledge he had was nothing compared to that, and even with his intelligence would he ever understand what it was like to be innocent.

The girl blinked away the sunlight as the man took a moment to ponder an answer. Yes, he was a man. His hair was dark and behind him hung the feathered lengths of wings. But, she thought, things that fly have wings. Can he fly?
"Who am I?" Strength seemed to flood her body when he spoke as if to prove to a part of her consciousness that she did, indeed, live. His voice proved calm, salving hidden doubts about where she was. If only her eyes could focus and see more than just his outline. "My name child, is Demitrius Octavia."
At the finish of his reply, the girl shifted and tried to right herself. Water splashed about her legs and lower half as she leaned to the side facing Demitrius and tried to push herself to a sitting position. A band of shining engraved silver jingled absently on her wrist. Blond hair fell from her shoulders and back as she came upon her elbow, leaving behind an imprint in the grass. It fell in wet clumps with dry whisps blowing toward Demitrius.
The addition of height brought with it more than the full feel of the breeze and scent of smoke from the mountains. Her blue eyes were given the sight of the full river and the grass and trees beyond. Anceient green mountains stood stooped against the bluest of skies holding the secrets of many generations. She needed not to turn her head as her eyes darted from one scene to another. Everything unfamiliar.
And then the water bubbled with a new breeze a pulling her wide-eyed gaze downward. A girl with blonde hair down to her waist wearing a damp, frilled, cotton nightgown stared back up at her. A question sparked and found itself in the air before her mind could attach emotion to it.
"So if you are Demitrus," Her little voice echoed his name and paused. She took one last look at the girl in the river water as she disappeared in ripples before looking up at him, blue meeting purple. "Who am I?"

He watched the girl carefully as she attempted to sit upright. Demitrius still watched this child he found with amazement, she seemed so fragile and so unaware of her environment. Where has this child come from? And why of all places is she in this valley? There are no villages for miles, she could not been left for dead, who would do such a thing? He rethought his idea...many would do such a thing. This world was cruel; if she had been abandoned he did not know what would come of her…my travels are dangerous, she could not possibly be able to travel with me. Her fragile mind could not bare the destruction and murder I have seen. He frowned in the direction of the child. Children were not his most favorable creatures, although they were tolerable. He returned to the scene at hand and noticed she was now looking at her own reflection in the stream. This child seems to be amazed with all that surrounds her, a peculiar way to wake up from a nap, he shifted his body and thought for a moment and then he heard the child speak. He looked directly into her ocean blue eyes and retained his peaceful expression. "Who am I?" she asked him both truthfully and innocently. Demitrius now looked at the child with confusion, his eyes deepening in color. He could not believe what he was hearing. She does not know who she is? How could this be? Has she been injured or have the Gods tossed her to earth as they have I…He stood up rather quickly not thinking of what the small girl would believe of him. He extended his wings and brushed strands of hair from his brow. He pulled in a deep breath and sighed. Looking now off into the distance he wished to disappear, but yet a part of him felt apologetic for the girl. He knew she could not help herself on her own so he redirected his attention on her. "My Lady," he said offering formality where a name could not be placed. "I am sorry but I cannot...I do not know who you are." He finally added, honestly with a heavy sigh. " If you wish I could help you choose a name for yourself." Demitrius grinned to show kindness and forgot all about his fangs...He walked toward her quickly and offered the child his hand to raise her up off the ground. " But first we shall get you dried off and acquire some food for your stomach." He leaned in further offering his strong hand for support, his face showing a deep sympathy and concern for this new young traveler.

The girl sat in bewilderment as Demetrius stood so suddenly. The abruptness tugged at her heart with an emotion she couldn't quite place. She instinctivly knew that if he left her there, she would stand no chance. She didn't want to be alone. He couldn't go-- as her eyes began to water he spoke so she ceased her mind and listened.
So he didn't know who she was. More of a tugging at her heart. Something told her she was nothing without a name, but something also told her she had one. Somewhere, to someone, at some time, she had a name. She needed to find it.
He smiled and the tugging at her heart disappated. Who was this man? Demitrius Octavia. She told her self in quiet impartialness as he came forth and held out his hand. His grin had been different, but she couldn't place why, and yet, she wanted to trust him and his offer.
For a moment, she stared at his hand. Strong and weathered with time and effort, it looked forbodingly powerful. Again she raised her blue eyes seeking the sight of his purple ones. Looking back down at his hand, visible indecisiveness, she lifted her own, silver bracelet falling further down her arm and glinting in the sunlight.
Small and pale, her child's hand disappeared in the size of his. It was rough, like sandpaper, but she did not mind. In fact, a small part of her enjoyed the scratchy warmth as he helped her to find unsteady height on her legs. This shaky progressing from sitting to standing looked to be her first, but the girl did not let the akwardness of her rise hinder her from mimicking the way Demitrius stood on his own two feet. Her eyes constantly looked between her bare toes to his in shoes until she stood at chest level.
All the while, she gripped his hand, security from falling, and when her knees quit shaking, she looked up at him, her eyes shining with the same vibrant beauty her smile did. "I will be strong like Demitrius." She said with such conviction to the man two feet taller than her that the truth of it could not be denied. She did not relinquish her hold on his hand.

As he touched her hand, he felt warmth in his soul he had never felt before; this child was pure and innocent. What was he to do with such a creature, he could not keep her, and she was not a pet to be had. But still, he could not help but smile when he pulled her up, how awkward she proved to be. Like a newborn doe. One who wants to stand just as her mother does and desires to learn quickly to keep up. He could not get over how tiny her hands were compared to his, how fragile and petite she was. Finally she stood and he was relived to see her do so. Her knees still rattled beneath her as she tried to steady herself and Demitrius waited and did not let go. The next words he heard were words he dreaded inside... "I will be strong like Demitrius." He winced a bit and then grinned again. He was both blissful and miserable to hear those words from a child, strength was needed, yes. He closed his eyes a while, only for a second and then knelt down to speak with the youngster face to face. " You may be strong like me little one," he said not to break her spirit, still holding her hand, "but remember how you perceive me now, not what you may find of me later..." He trailed off slowly and hoped the child would understand. Maybe she would maybe she would not, but eventually she would need to know. He looked into her deep blue eyes and lightened his facial expression. "Now young one, what do you wish that I call you?" "You may make a name for yourself until we both can find out who exactly you belong to..." As he said this he stood and folded his dark wings back behind him, keeping the grip on her hand. His eyes reflected his question, and then he thought to himself...
She seems to know nothing of herself. Not even where she had lived. She could barley stand on her own without my assistance. I will need her to travel with me, even though that may not be the best thing, it should keep her alive for now. She has not taken any attention toward my physical appearance, which may also prove to be dreadful. She might have questions...
"Little one, do you have any questions you wish to ask me?" Demitrius asked with a quizzical expression. He extended his wings to their complete length, delighting in what the child would respond to.
Keeping a child might not be has awful as he once thought, but still it was not safe for her to be around him... he then let go of her hand.

For a moment, a very breif moment, the girl feared she had once again upsetted Demitrius. The expression left, however, and she stood quiet as he knelt down to her level. She felt tall now, important to him in some way, but instead of jumping at the pleasing feeling, she kept her silence.
"You may be strong like me little one, but remember how you perceive me now, not what you may find of me later..."
His voice trailed off while she wished to know more. How could Demitrius be different than he is now? Her little eyes and tilted head seemed to ask. This was Demitrius as she knew him. How can a person be different 'later'? But her silent questions were not answered as his voice picked up once more.
"Now young one, what do you wish that I call you? You may make a name for yourself until we both can find out who exactly you belong to..."
She watched him rise, blue eyes rivetted to his newest change in expression. Something was going on inside of him. It fascinated her to watching one thought then another pass across his face as she stood there holding his hand. More musing came from his lips supplying to her curiosity of his thoughts.
"Little one, do you have any questions you wish to ask me?"
Black wings spread wide behind him distracted her gaze from his face. They were long and graceful, feathered in beautiful shades of onyx. She longed to touch them, but instinct told her to keep her hands away. Demitrius may not like that.
As her mind tumbled with trying to find a question, he let go of her hand and stepped away. This, more than the fangs and wings, visibly troubled her childish features. Although, she did not argue and let her hand fall to her side with the jingle of her bracelet.
"Demitrius?" She voiced after a moment of serious pondering with her toes. "What is a name? And... why dont I have one? Do I need one? I dont mind not having one, but where can I find one?" She lifted both her gaze and the wrist with the bracelet as if to show him the piece of silver. "Can I trade you this for a name?" A stretch of engraved metal interrupted the link chain of silver resting halfway down the girl's slender pale arm. On it were four words. Mae Ri Ella Maquis

Her hand fell to her side like a rock, but Demitrius noticed something extraordinary about her arm. What type of bracelet adorns her wrist? She could not have been left here with just a bracelet; many who abandon take what is theirs...He pondered quickly before he began to hear her tiny voice once more. "Demitrius, what is a name, and why don't I have one?" He thought for a moment but was not sure what to tell the child that he towered over. "I don't mind having one, but where can I find one?" He smiled softly and let his wings fold; if there was anything peculiar about this child it was not her childlike manner that was.
"A name is something that you are given as a living being. You are called by your name and remembered by your name it also indicates who you are, but a name is not everything. You do not need one to survive. A name is basically an identification."
He said in a solemn tone. She wishes to trade her only possession for a name, a possession worth more than her bracelet. Children understand more than what is thought of them...His thoughts trailed off as he watched her jingle her silver chain, it flashed in the light and then he saw it...he squinted a little to make sure what he was about to say was the truth.
"Child, I think you do not want me to have your bracelet..I would ne'er take it either, but you should look more closely at the possessions you have, they might give you what you have asked of me..." He looked at her with his eyebrows raised, and then he smiled to show her that it was a good thing. He walked up close to her and placed his finger on the lettering on her piece of silver. "I think you have been named already." He said with a light chuckle. "Whoever placed this on your wrist wanted you to know that you are Mae Ri Ella Maquis. What a pretty name for a young girl, don't you think?" He asked in a fatherly tone. His smile soon faded and his eyes reflected sadness.
I cannot become attached to this child. It will prove dangerous for her; she would never understand what I am. A beast to her I would be. I have dealt with others like her before but she should mean nothing to me. I am neither a father nor guardian and never will be. Who wants a father who has to control himself to keep his daughter alive?
He took a seat on a ruin block next to the stream, a small distance from Mae Ri. Demitrius sighed heavily and looked up at the innocent being before him. What should I say to the child? Should I tell her my sorrow in keeping her? Shall I take her with me to where I am going? I do not know how to keep one; a child of her age would like a mother, and she is going to be needing one very soon as the looks of her age. He placed his head in his rough hands and stopped thinking about it; I will tell her only if she asks for the sake of her own safety. He swiped away the black locks of hair off of his face and refocused on Mae Ri, he assumed this was her name. " Well Mae Ri, is there anything you would like, anything you need?" It was his best attempt to communicate and understand her as a child. He had no motherly instinct nor had he ever had a mother, he dreaded, if she was still with him, the day she would become a woman.

The girl listened quietly as Demitrius explained the use and reasoning behind a name. So a name made you special. It made you stand out and be something. But she didn't need it... she scrunched her button nose and lowered her offered wrist as both paused to think. So if she didn't need a name, why was it so important to have one?
Before she could get any further in her mind, Demitrius moved to speak again. Immediately her blue eyes watched thoughts turn to motion, to words. Sorrow flitted in her blue eyes before a cat's curiosity stole the look in her eye. On the suggestion, she peeled her gaze from him and made as though to look at her bracelet. She turned it left and right watching the links shine in the afternoon light. A small giggle escaped at the simple amusement, but Demitrius had come closer to point out the lettering.
"I think you have been named already." The girl looked from where he pointed to his chuckling face anticipating more of an explanation, but what she saw proved all the better. Demitrius chuckled capriciously and she liked that smile on him so she smiled wider. "Whoever placed this on your wrist wanted you to know that you are Mae Ri Ella Maquis. What a pretty name for a young girl, don't you think?"
Mae Ri Ella Maquis. So that was her name. And best of all Demitrius liked it. She could tell by his shining eyes, but slowly the shine dulled and he stepped away. Her shoulders fell as she watched him. Obviously his mind and heart stressed with thoughts he kept for himself. Something instinctual told her he held his thoughts secret for a reason, but that did not mean she had to like the troubled gaze he faced her with.
She did not like meeting that gaze, she found, and began toying with the still damp lengths of her light outfit. A part of her could feel it, his eyes, his troubled gaze on her. What had she done to merit that gaze? Maybe Mae Ri should go away… But she had already grown attached to the thought of him being around and did not like the idea of being alone.
" Well Mae Ri, is there anything you would like, anything you need?"
At the sound of his voice, a tone lighter than his expression had been moments ago, Mae Ri quickly picked her sights up from her fidgeting hands to his face. Again she looked away.
Twice Demitrius asked what she wanted. The first time, Mae Ri complied, but this time she didn’t think she should ask anything of him. In her lapse of voice, Mae Ri twisted her fingers until she gathered enough to bring forth her thoughts.
“Mae Ri,” She identified herself in the third person, not knowing any better, “would like to know what Demitrius wants to do.” Blue eyes alone lifted to look at him, but for only a moment. “I promise wont bring Demitrius trouble…”

Demitrius smiled at Mae Ri. Little children certainly know how to touch a persons soul. He looked at her with his deep purple eyes. "I certainly doubt, Mae Ri, that you would intentionally cause me trouble." He said with a grin. Thinking forward now he thought about what he was going to do and how to tell the small girl. The Gods have gifted me well, I must spread the truth to the chosen ones of each nation. This will be a though task, each Patron god and goddess are set in there ways and fights between nations are inevitable. How is one going to visualize the truth when one is blinded by deceit? I know not but still I must try, each nation will learn to work together or Algaesia will be doomed to death. The end is near and if each does not learn to work in harmony all of nature will fall out of existence. He was passionate about each element, one within itself possessing wonders beyond comprehension and each together creating a beauty and life one could never imagine. The road ahead was sure to be rocky but he was ready, and he would teach Mae Ri his beliefs as well, hoping she would inherit the same understanding as he, Algaesia was made to work in harmony, no element greater than the other, it would be impossible for such a claim otherwise to be fact. Without a balance all will die. As sure as he was of the sun rising every day he was sure of this...now it was his turn to spread his message. But whom shall I go to see first, I will leave the Mistress until later, and a Lady of Wind is still yet to be uncovered. The men I will deal with first, they might be a bit more cunning than the female, a bit harder to deal with. My time shall be spent with one of each...or shall I call a meeting? A confrontation might be easier for the time being, but a meeting is to be in order for a later date, If they are to work together they will need to meet each other before hand. Earth or Fire, I am not sure...He questioned himself, his gaze drifting from the girl, he then had an idea. Looking back to the child he called to her, "Mae Ri, come here please..." He motioned with his hand. "Which item excites you most the dirt below your feet or the fire of the sun?" He asked her as innocently as he could, knowing it would never meet that of a child's. "I wish to know, for that will be the nation we visit first." He looked at her with a sense of hope, also eager to know if she understood what he was asking. "For now we stand in the regions without a God or Goddess, we would need to fly to get where I need to go and I also would like to know if you wish to come in the first place." He said with a slight tilt to his head. "So which do you prefer?" He placed his hand on his knees. "I will go where ever you choose for it might bring good luck, and we will certainly need all we can get."

Demitrius smiled, but not until he spoke did Mae Ri realize the peaceful upturn of his lips. He had smiled, so she smiled, broad and bright, her eyes immideately alight and dancing. Mae Ri did not yet understand the reason her eyes danced so -her consciousness had yet to recognize and put names to emotion- but she knew it was good when he smiled like that. Very good.
Quiet prevailed, Demitrius mulling over thoughts, Mae Ri patiently waiting for the winged man to speak those very thoughts. She stood and waited while he thought, simpy waited, as the wind dried more of her long blonde hair and white nightgown. She stole glances at him, not wondering what he thought, but worried that if she didn't he would leave completely.
After a time, he beckoned her forward with a small wave. She hesitated before padding quietly across the grass, her little feet treading so lightly they barely bent the stalks. When she came to stand before him, he spoke of nations, Gods and Goddesses, things she did not understand. Blue eyes watched him as he spoke of these things and her fingers stopped winding about themselves as she tried to understand, but, instead, stored the information away when she could not.
What made Mae Ri grin, however, was his final comment.
"I will go where ever you choose for it might bring good luck, and we will certainly need all we can get."
Her elation at being allowed to travel along side him seemed to make her entire being glow and shine."Mae Ri can go with Demitrius?" Clasping her hands was all she could do at the moment; touching him in any way still seemed forbidden. Something about the way he sat with his hand on his knees suggested he feared touching her, but she could not stop the hopeful smile that maybe one day she would get to hug him. "Can I, please?
"Mae Ri would like to stay with Demitrius and go with him to see the flowers. Can we go there? Where there are flowers and lots of sun and nice dirt for them?" Her childish persona was not so undeveloped that she could not associate one thing with another. From her actions, Mae Ri held knowledge of a small eclectic array of things. She knew flowers grew from the ground, the dirt, and that the fires of the sun was the sunlight her beloved flowers needed to survive.
Her eyes sparkled when she proffered the next thought to come to mind. "I will make something for Demitrius when we get there." Her little smile suggested she already had a plan and her small bouncing self hinted at her eagerness to be going somewhere with him. "Would Demitrius like that?"

Demitrius looked at the small child with wide eyes. He was now certain the little girl did not understand a word he had said about the nations. He listened to her excited babble and he knew she understood the basic elemental association. Wind cools and gives winged creatures lift, Fire burns in the sun to provide warmth and hope, Water makes all life possible, and earth is the basis of it all, but it was not enough. He began to feel frustrated but kept the emotion hidden from the child's inescapable blue eyes, pools of hope yearning to be taught and longing for companionship. He had realized now just how dangerous it would be to carry this small one with him as he traveled. She would not be a suitable companion, he had never taken to any companions, what made it any different now? He despised that he had a heart, one he could not ignore, it tugged at his feelings relentlessly and never gave him a moments peace. It filled him with pity for the child, all alone, no parents, but how could he simply believe that he could father a child? He could never, he was a blood eater, and even in his presence now the child was unsafe, unsafe in a way she could never imagine, young blood was innocence, a feeling he had not taken in a while and in a few hours his eyes would deepen to a darkness only he knew and could see, a hunter with one purpose, to kill.
Demitrius finished listening and he looked at the girl with wonder. She needs to have a teacher, and that is something I cannot provide, plus she would like to see flowers...Water has plenty, they are the growers and she would be taught well, and maybe even come into her gift. She might not enjoy me leaving her but that is how children are. I cannot keep her, for even being around me now she is not safe, nor will she ever be in the future if she remains with me, besides I need a companion who understands....he quickly let his thoughts trail off. Now to tell the child.
"Mae," he said as he pushed his dark hair out of his violet eyes, "How about we journey to the Kingdom of Water. I shall leave you with a great teacher and you will be brought up well. I cannot provide for you what a normal parent could and their are dangerous tasks ahead for me that you could not bear to witness. I hope you understand that I will need to leave you in Water, a beautiful place very similar to this. The city is very nice, white wash walls, a great protection place for you. You will understand fully in time, but I need to know if you would like to go. If not I will need to leave you here and I do not wish to do so."
He kept a serious face to show her he was not joking or making fun, he needed her to understand that he could not stay with her. He added quickly, " I am dangerous, not only to you but to everything made under the Gods, this is what bothers me so. I hope you do not question me, and I know you may not understand, but I need you to decide Mae, and make it quick, for I need to leave." He stood abruptly and walked toward the small stream, knelt down besides it and placed his hands in it for sometime. He felt the water in him, it calmed him and made him ready for flight. Demitrius would need to prepare himself to the fullest if he was going to be handling Mae Ri, knowing her beating heart with innocent blood pouring willingly throughout her veins would be a bit to close for comfort she could instantly become a lifeless being that had never been. He tried not to think about her blood for a few moments, and stood once more to look at the girl.
He hoped she would be able to bring herself to a decision, weather it would threaten her life or not, that would be up to Demitrius.

The sudden severity in everything Demirtius said and did next sucked the joy from Mae Ri. Her bounces stopped and all at once her hopes of being allowed to go with Demitrius seemed shattered. He spoke in circles to her, leaving things vague, giving her generalities about his situation, her situation and what was going to happen. A piece of hope broke away with each bit of information her fragile, inncent eyes took in from his loving lips.
If she agreed to his wishes, she would be left in the Water Kingdom with someone who could teach her. The city was pretty and he described it to her, but not before revealing that he didn't think she would be safe traveling with him. Even if travelling with him was what she wanted. Her head spun through thoughts dictated by emotion; he wanted to leave her behind in the Water Kingdom ...But why? Her little eyes asked.
Picking up before Mae Ri could respond, Demitrius continued with his series hazy misted answers. "I am dangerous, not only to you but to everything made under the Gods, this is what bothers me so. I hope you do not question me, and I know you may not understand, but I need you to decide Mae, and make it quick, for I need to leave."
That was enough for Mae Ri to decide. He understood and he had reasons so as Demitrius ventured over to the river Mae Ri crouched low. Sitting on her heels, blonde hair fell over her shoulders as her fingers grappled with something hidden by the young lengths of legs. By the time he finished with his necessities by the water, Mae Ri had finished her little endeavor and was quietly closing the space between the two of them. She stopped before him, clutching something in her little hands.
"I will wait for Demitrius," Her little voice held steady even though her gaze remained downcast in sorrow to be saying the things that left her lips, "since he is afraid for me and does not want me to come with him." She nodded once, difinitively, and let her shoulders relax, a sudden droop adding years to her childish features. "I will go to the nation of water like Demitrius wants, but," Clearly Mae Ri had turned all Demitrius had told her in the few moments he had submerged his hands in the river, "he must take this first and promise not to give it back."
She held out both her hands, the item they held too big for just one, and waited patiently until he agreed. When he reached out to accept it, she dropped her silver bracelet into his palm. Gentle blue eyes finally lifted to meet his. She smiled. "Demitrius will come visit Mae Ri, wont he?"

Demitrius gazed down on the little child with sympathy. He had brought her bubbly childlike attitude down to a solemn expression and the guilt tugged on his heart but he knew he was doing the right thing, for himself and for the child. Mae now approached him with an item in her clutches, her expression depressed and without the lighthearted smile. She spoke keeping her feelings below the surface but the emotion was still noticeable within her blue eyes. She understood why Demitrius was going to leave her and that was to protect her and to teach her, and she seemed quite sure of herself, or as sure as a small girl could make herself out to be. Mae clearly wanted to give Demitrius a gift, with her hands extended and her command to take what was in them, Demitrius held out his own right hand and felt the cool silver on his palm as she dropped the small bracelet, her identity tag into his hand. He folded his thin, long fingers around in and placed it into his pants pocket. Demitrius took the piece of jewelery out of respect of her, she followed his wishes even if she did not want to, a very mature action taken by a girl who seemed all but ten.
Mae's smile rejuvenated on her bright face reflecting the question she so desired an answer to. Demitirus's expression lightened and he thought about his response for a moment... "Thank you for your bracelet Mae, and yes, I will try to visit you sometime." He said with a slight tilt to his head. He did not want to plant false hope in the girl, nor did he wish to lie to her so he kept his responses as open as he possibly could. No promises. He did not wish to destroy any traces of hope left within her fragile body.
Demitrius flexed his wings and walked toward a clearing between the small trees and the stream, his feet heavy on the earth leaving prints in the mud along the banks. He turned back around to face Mae and then began to speak. " We have little time to make you safe and I wish to be on my way." He motioned for her to come toward him now, he was ready to fly. " I can take you right away." He said to give her an idea of what he was about to do, his violet eyes becoming darker as his hunger for blood grew. Mae would be safe for now but in a few hours her life would be in terrible danger. He held both arms out and reached for her hands, so he could pull her close and she would be in no danger during the flight. He awaited patiently for the grip of her small, sensitive fingertips... [whisper= mm, celestialessence] Sorry, it is a bit short, if you need anymore to work with just let me know. [/whisper]

Much to Mae Ri's pleasure Demitrius accepted her solitary treasure with no complaint. Quietly he slipped it into his pocket without the slightest look, her bright eyes watching until it disappeared from sight and he began to speak. Thank you for your bracelet Mae, and yes, I will try to visit you sometime." She smiled as he did further burying her sorrows at parting. Light sparkled off her bouncing blonde hair when she nodded to his promise to attempt to visit her. Trying, she accepted, was better than nothing.
She watched, with a child's innocent awe, as he then turned from her, stretching his sprawling black wings to the sky. A part of her secretly, silently wished Demitrius did not have those wings. A part of her knew danger hid in the them, but could not voice the suggestion that Demitrius would harm her in any way. Another part of Mae Ri love those wings. Her fingers squeezed about one another, restraingint hemselves from reaching out to stroke the lengths of black feathers sprouting from her guardian's shoulders.
After reaching a clear patch by the riverside, Demitrius turned and beckoned Mae Ri to him. The pressure placed upon her own fingers increased and blue eyes glanced at the grass between her bare toes before she slowly stepped forward. She had understood, reiterated a moment ago, the reasoning behind Demitrius's desire to take her to the Water Kingdom and yet, she did not understand things now as something pounded in her breast.
His hands reached forward, arms spread wide to accept her for their flight. She stopped just before them wondering if he truly wanted any of this. Reaching forward, she laid her hands in his, quietly amazed how small she was in comparison. In a moment they would be aloft... flying. Dark blue eyes looked up at Demitrius, past the whisps of blonde hair floating on the air, as if awaiting instruction or comfort even though her lips couldn't find words.

Mae's hands touched Demitrius's own and he felt her warm blood pounding through her veins. She was afraid, he could sense it, a normal reaction from a small child having no real knowledge of where she was or where she was going. The pulsing under her flesh made Demitrius flinch for a moment. Touching anyone was difficult for him, an instinct he owned for being what her was...a vampire.
He looked into her uncertain eyes and then spoke to her as calmly as he could. "Mae, I want you to grip my shoulders as tightly as you can after I pick you up, alright?" His deepening violet eyes ran into a darker purple as he reached out to pick her up. He hoisted her high and brought her close to his body to protect her in flight, the whole time keeping his gaze ahead trying to relieve himself from the want to plunge his sharp fangs into her small neck. "Are you ready?" Demitrius said, almost asking himself the question. He thought he would ask her to be polite even if her answer was in the negative. The rapid thumping under Mae's skin finally became bearable for Demitrius to withstand enough so he would be able to fly without harming her. He wrapped his arms tightly around her and shouted, "Let's Go!" His black feathered wings batted gracefully and they were soon soaring above the beauty of the Valley, gliding along like a bird. The light breeze flowing over them cleared Demitrius' head and tore his coal black hair away from his face. He held Mae in such a way that she would not be able to focus her eyes on the rocky grounds below them, but only peer into the wonder of the sky above.
Demitrius' flight moved quickly and the scenery began to change rapidly. As they advanced onto the Water Region he began to think about who he would leave the child with. His only option at the time would be to take her to the Silver City and personally give her to the Mistress of the Rain. There she would be taught well and have a good home. The elves were kind for the most part and she would learn about the rains and growth and beauty. He spoke to Mae loudly over the rushing noise of the air around them so she would be able to hear him clearly. "You should like the city where I am taking you. The Home of the Elves named the Silver City. You will get to meet the Mistress of the Rain, leader of water." As will I, he thought quickly after his words. He would meet with this woman and speak with her on the rising issues of war. Hopefully she would listen. He let the topic slide from his mind and took in what was left of the sun, in only a matter of time they would reach their intended destination.
o.c.c.: Sorry it took me too long. This will be my last post in this thread, My next post will be in The Silver City, OK. You respond here though, next we will be able to have some fun with daybreak.... ;D

He didn't need to tell Mae Ri to hold tight for the moment he lifted her from the sturdy support of the earth below, her arms reached for him. Without any resistance, she was hoisted to his shoulder and cradled in the crook of an arm. This was what it was like to be held. He was warm, like the sun, and soft like the grass. He smelled, she noticed, nothing like the flowers or the grass or water.
She buried her face in his neck waiting anxiously for their trip to begin, nodding when he asked if she was ready. "Lets go!" The plunge into the sky jolted Mae Ri and she gripped tighter, small arms wound about his neck. His own grip pushed her close to him, safe in his arms. Rushing wind pulled at her hair making it whip and dance as they moved with the rise and fall of his beating wings. It whistled in her ears and dried her loudly rustling dress within minutes. This was all so new to Mae Ri as she clutched Demitirus with no reserve. Her senses screamed not to let go, that doing so would result in something bad.
For a long while her hands remained fixed to handfuls of his shirt. As the sensation of flying, of having the invisible rushing audible and tangible past you, became more and more repetative, Mae Ri came to relax in Demitrius's hold. He would not let her fall; even after so long his grip remained steady and strong.
A rumbling grew within Demitrius. She closed her eyes and felt, as well as heard, him shout to her over the rush of the wind. Curiosity peaked, she blinked quietly to see first his shoulder and shirt then the blue sky smeared with white clouds. They were so close now! Two spans of black rose into the sight before her. Her eyes widened as fluttering masses of feathers pumped hard propelling her and Demitrius forward to glide on them as they stretched wide. Just like with the clouds, she wondered what they would feel like. Little fingers regripped Demitrius's collar.
Still, she could not see this Silver City that he spoke of. If only she could turn around, but he held her so close she dared not move lest she did fall. The best she could do was turn her head to look up his neck to a face fully revealed. With his dark hair trailed in the wind, his expression of self tourment and determination couldn't be hidden. She could tell he had something to do, something very important, so she didn't bother him with a response, turned her head back, and set her cheek to his shoulder to wait out the ride of her ride. I wish Demitrius would stay with Mae Ri, her heart wished.
[whisper= celesialessence]Celestial: Sounds good to me! I'll see you and daybreak there. Glad to have you back. You're such a good RPer, I thought we were going to lose you so the dark dreary depths of school. [/whisper]
